Into Eternity's new album

I haven't heard the new studio stuff. But I saw them live with Nevermore and Opeth and they were pretty bad. Terrible, muddy sound that didn't mesh well with the singer's high screeching.

I was really disappointed by it. new vocalist is fine at times but the abundant Halford/Diamond screeching really got on my nerves quickly and killed quite a few songs for me. (And I generally don't have a problem with that style of singing; I'm fine with classic Priest, Mercyful Fate or even the small doses in IX Equilibrium or Domine Non Es Dignus).

beyond that, I thought the songwriting took a step down in complexity - less surprising, less interesting and less to chew on.

I love Buried in Oblivion and Dead but Dreaming but I've already sold this one back.

It's OK I guess. I agree that the songwriting has taked a step backwards. It seems the chorus's are too simple, compaired to the complexity of the other parts. This leads to early burnout, before I've even gotten into the entire song. As for the new vocalist, he seems good enough IMO. I don't particuraly care for his voice in the higher registers, but overall he's solid.

Couldn't have said it better.

Though I do listen to it now and again.

Also, I think that the double bass is just way too upfront in the mix.
