INVENT YOUR G3

Alexi is a good guitarist, but he would be annihiliated.

I'm a bit tired to repeat it, but I think Alexi is STILL a great guitarist.... that's for sure.
There's almost no need to be able to play the guitar to understand that he's a good musician... but what to say? In this world there's a lot of envy...
'Cause there aren't so many guitarists that can play as good as he does...
This is my thought, and I won't change it.

Well, I am a guitarist, and I've been practicing heavily for almost a year now. Anyone who isn't tone deaf, has time to practice, and has the passion and willpower to practice things over and over and over again, can play like that. Granted, I have a lot of practice ahead of me to even play as well as Alexi, but anyone can do it if they really want to.

You really have to be a guitarist to actually understand the difference in playing at that level. Even though alexi is very fast and can come up with great solos and riffs, possibly the best in the world in my opinion, he still lacks that extra bit to be at the top of guitar players, like Chris Broderick, Michael Angelo, Michael Romeo (these are my favs. so i'm just mentioning them!)

I'm not trying to look down on you just because you don't play guitar, but this is how it is :)

No problem... confrontations are good accepted and nice.
I grew with music, or better "in" music....and cuz of my father, but I won't tell anything else to not be deemed, cuz I would be misunderstood or insulted, or whatever....
So let me tell you: I am not tone deaf... and I just think what I said. Guaranted.
Yes, there are many people who are able to play, and some of they play good.... no one denies that!
But I told, and I'm firmly convinced, that there are too envious people, who aren't mean at all but are more good in saying bla bla bla than demonstrate something...
Obviously I'll be hated for this that I'm telling, but I don't mind... everyone has his/her thoughts, it's ok.
But it happens too often that who declares to be very very good is, in reality, the opposite.

It hs nothing to do with Envy.
But Vai and Satriani are just WAY better musicians then Alexi. Yeah he's a great guitarist, but no where near the level as the G3 virtuoso guitarists.

And if you play guitar or not, you still can make the connection of What sounds good and what doesn't. Which is all that really matters.

Yes, Cliff... you won't believe me but I understand what you all have told, but...
I do know what really matters... but I still think what I wrote.
And I haven't talked only about envy: not in those 2 last posts, nor in those that I wrote since I am on the board... if someone would go to read what I wrote in the past, and read well, maybe he'll get what I really mean, and what I'm trying to say since I'm here.
Maybe, one day, someone will understand better what I told...
But nevermind...it's ok like this too.

The discussion seems to always concern Alexi's technical skills as a player. Yeah, for sure there are faster and more versatile guitarists in that sense. I'd like to also remind that he is a songwriter and a creative musician who writes songs which sell hundreds of thousands of copies. One can practise like a monkey for ten years and play faster but probably won't ever write a hit song...That's what musicianship is about, creative ideas and ways of expressing feelings, not just technical masturbation.

I think Vai and Satch write over-complicated music. I *love* what Steve Vai does but I don't think it makes him a great musician. He's probably the best technical player on the planet, and certainly the most unique, but he's a different breed. He's nothing like Alexi or anyone else, even the imitators.

Thank you for having written something like that... you seem understand more or less what I said.

And in the end, for me, there is not a guitar player that is better than another guitar player: there are only many good and different guitar players, and everyone can give us something special, typical of his own style.
And Alexi is just one of my favourite.
I think I have nothing else to say... on the whole, it doesn't matter... not anymore.

I still think you misunderstood me :erk:

Let me rephrase it. My favorite guitarist is Michael Angelo, and you know why? Not because he writes beautiful music, because if you listen to Nitro you will understand that he doesn't, but the fact that his technique is far superior to anyone else (In my opinon). He's one of the fastest guitarists alive, and he plays cleanly and knows tons of different techniques that other's wouldn't even dream of, like the double/quad-guitar.

But alexi on the other hand, writes beautful music, with solos that fit so well into every song that he makes. I think he's one of a kind.

You have to understand that i am in no way thinking that you are tone deaf, because obviously you aren't. But G3 isn't just about the music, it's about technicality that some guitarists posess, even though they might not be the best at writing good songs.

This may sound complicated, or you might not understand my point of view, but i sure hope so, so you don't think i'm one of those that think alexi sucks because he has sold out or w/e. Alexi is still my favorite songwriter, even though i like other guitarists more fore their technique.

If you don't know who MAB is, here is a sample :)

If you don't have anything to add, that's fine, i just wanted you to know how i felt about this whole thing.

Alexi is not a G3 Player, The fact is he is not good enouth, yeah he can play some nice licks and can sweep, but will he be able to play a good set of it all, on tour he plays the same old live solo every time then wacks Some cheesey riff in at the end, So how in hell is he going to keep up with the like's of Vai and Yngwie.

That's stupid.

I'd rather watch Alexi play at a G3 because he has good note choice and can compose good stuff, not because he can or cannot play 362456 notes per second.

Satch is a great choice for G3 because his songs are good, yet Malmsteen, Vai and Petrucci are much better than him.

No, don't worry.... I did understood! And my answer was "general"....
No problem... it's all fine. :)

Paul Gilbert,Jason Becker and Marty Freidman. And dont say Jason couldnt do it...cause he can play 1,000,000,000 times bettter than ANY of these guitar nOObs nowadays even in his diseased state

Vito Bratta, Jason Becker, and Tony MacAlpine. Vito, simply because he's a killer composer, Becker cause he's an underrated guitarist, and T Mac cause he gets zero credit
