Inveracity Circle of Perversion
Unmatched Brutality Records 2003
By Adam McAuley
Theres no denying the Suffocation influence running throughout this album. In fact, youll be hard pressed to overlook the similarities and find any unique value in Inveracity at all when listening to them. But the good news is that this is fairly good Suffocation worship. There is an undeniable impact this type of music has, which Inveracity carries through efficiently. The songs are short, but bring solid potency to the fore. As youd expect from such music, frugal blast beating is used to great effect.
My main problems with the band are that theyre somewhat sluggish, and the performances are slightly sloppy. The bass has a tinny, muted sound, which doesnt leave a good impression. The drumming is also fairly generic. If these aspects were improved, Inveracity could be a force to be reckoned with. They kept my attention very well about two-thirds of the way through the album, but after that I began to realize that so much improvement could be achieved. Because of the unoriginality of the music, youve heard similar stuff played before by the likes of Suffocation and Deeds of Flesh, and if youve checked out either of those bands, youll only get a sub-standard imitation of that sound.
So, if youre a gigantic fan of Suffocation, definitely give these chaps a shot, but go into the work with less than incredibly high expectations to get the best from it. The style has been done better before, but Inveracity certainly do a decent job of it.
