Fucking hell, the virgin blue site is getting beaten to a pulp. Trying to book flights will be a waste of time since they announced the $29 domestic flight deal this morning :erk: Though on the plus side, if I do ever get in, I might get a $29 flight, which is worth a hooray. :)

And I've got several different Frank Zappa songs chasing each other around in my head - all but one of which are NSFW, so I can't sing along o_O

Alas - no cheap flight insanity for me. :(

One of our guys here at work has had a bad start to his day - came off his bike this morning, wrote it off, brand new bike :erk: He said that the funniest thing about it is when you tell people about a cycling accident, you can always instantly tell a fellow cyclist from a non-cyclist. The first thing the non-cyclist asks is "were you ok?"...the first thing we cyclists instinctively ask is "is your bike ok?" :p

I got through to jetstar i got tickets to hamilton island for 29 bucks each way (+10 each way tax) now i just gota find a babe to take with me

I reckon that the ACCC should start investigating the airlines.

If they can run fares this cheap, then they have been screwing us up the freckle for decades.

If they are subsidising cheap fares with other routes, then they are still screwing us.

Point : when I had to go to Coffs Harbour for work, the return airfare was 2/3 of the price that my parents paid return to New Zealand......same carrier.

Speaking as someone who used to work far an airline, I can tell you that they can't run fares that cheap all of the time, and they don't subsidise them on other routes.

Jet Star are basically doing it so that people clog up their websites and it generates a whole lot of news, and Virgin Blue are doing it just so they don't lose market share and customer face.

Both airlines will be losing *packets* of money on this deal, which is why you'll find once the initial hoo-hah has died down fares will return to about what they are now.

Remember when Virgin first came into the market? They were having similar sorts of deals, and both Qantas and Ansett matched them. Since Ansett's gone and the market has pretty much polarised, you haven't seen those sorts of fares again till now.

It did take Richard Branson for the prices to come down so thanks to him :)

These price wars are good for a little while, but the market here isnt big enough to support so many domestic airlines.
