Is America truly free? I think not. I believe we have economic freedom- which is rapidly declining because of 20 yeards of misguided conservative policies. I do not think we have social freedom. I think we deceive ourselves that we do have political freedom.

Social freedom is totally lacking. I live in a climate of fear, terrorists warnings, rapists, drugs, everything and everyone is out to get me. I get stripped searched it seems at any event I attend. Umbrellas, water etc are all illegal to bring into any public meeting place- what the hell is up with that? Most cities I am on camera when I walk the street- I cant even pick my nose in privacy. I cannot drink beer on the street. I cannot light up a cigarette in my place of work. I cannot view for two seconds a female breast on national TV. My Tv shows and newspapers are edited and on the level of a third grader. Hell I cannot even find a decent restaurant that isnt owned by some multinational chain.

Political freedom seems impossible as well. I have two poor choices to vote for: The Neo-Prussian Nationalists, or the waffling have no vision disorganized party. I cannot influence what my elected officials vote on, becuase my vote doesnt even count anymore, nor do I have the money to influence my elected official.

Sorry for the rant. But upon re-entering this country after a three month absence, I was shocked at how we have become a police state. It is sad.

Where were you for 3 months?

America is free if you have enough money to pay for it. The middle class is fucked, I hate it. Buddy of mine has a good idea, The National Bone Out: pick one Monday, any Monday, and have NOBODY go to work that day, and watch the country collapse so we begin anew. I'd do it.

Haha, go to England. You even get topless darts over there.

It's a great place to live if you have money and Christian values.

Huh. Well, tired topic, but your "political freedom" or "democracy" certainly looks like a fucking joke from over here. You have essentially only two parties led by two devout Christians with slightly different views. HOORAY FOR FREEDOM OF CHOICE EH? Social freedom is declining everywhere in the West I'm afraid, though there's probably no Western country as bad as the USA at the moment..

This is why I like Canada. I think they're actually LESS restrictive... granted, taxes are higher, but shit, free medical is good for me... here, all your "extra" money goes to it anyway.

Even without considering government, there are a lot of unncessary restrictions in place in North America (I'm Canadian, so I'll speak about how things are up here). The stigmas our society forces into our heads as we grow up are ridiculous. The concept of "bad" language (i.e. cursing, whatever the hell you want to call it) is overused in our society. It's like we're afraid to let our children explore parts of the language/culture that have developed just as naturally and are just as relevant as everything else. The less-than-stellar image surrounding people with alternative lifestyles and sexualities is also a problem for me. Not so much because I live so alternatively, but because I don't like to see other people condemned for doing what the fuck they want, when it isn't hurting anyone else. I don't feel like going into much detail on this, 'cause it's probably just going to be ignored anyways. That or I just can't be bothered writing any more.

There's my 2 cents.

America needs a serious revolution, and that right soon.

"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a revolution." - Thomas Jefferson

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it." - Abraham Lincoln

but why would we want to start a revolution? As long as we have fucking American Idol, J-Lo, and our happy little suburbs, why the fuck should we care if we have low paying jobs, crappy healthcare coverage, and eroding civil rights?

that would be nice, but the hardest part would be recruiting diehard rebels, instead of people with all-bark-no-bite.

most Americans are content with their little patch of grass they call their own.

J. is absolutely right. I saw American History X last night, brilliant movie, and on a disturbed level touches this topic.... Americans, especially white, well off Americans, could care less about the ideals that our founding fathers so strongly believed in. It's all the about the $$$$ now. How I truly wish it would lose its value. Let's go back to the days of barter and trade, hell, I practice it on a daily basis at my job. I scratch your back, you scratch mine. Community, respect.

Most of mankind deserves to be wiped off the face of this planet by Mother Nature, God, ALlah or whatever/whoever it is you believe in.

In the words of the late Chuck Schuldiner, "Misanthrope, hater of all mankind, There is some hope, for those who own their mind."

J sounds like he's been reading The Turner Diaries. Great book.

We have freedom for impotent protest over here, but not much more it seems.

Americans love to revel in their complacency, there will never be revolution as long as the ruling class continues to pacify the majority and people have no reason to believe that the government isn't out to rob them of their power to question authority. I don't think we could ever replace money as the measure of power, but I do believe once people stop compromising themselves to achieve wealth they'll never attain and go about their own lives, this world will be a more healthy place. Greater demands on executive accountability and an end to corporate welfare wouldn't hurt either.
