This is something I've done with good/great results when I've found samples that are too short..
This is just a simple version, you can of course tweak this further..

In the example I used a snare that was posted here (I think it's from the Erkan's collection that's in the sticky)..

The example:

I shortened it myself for this "tutorial"..

As you can see and hear, the sample is too short.. at least for my taste..

So.. We copy the sample we have, then paste it directly afterwards..

Then we reverse the part we just pasted.

I personally remove this little part that's identical to the part before it (but reverse).
In my mind (what I hear) I get a less of the reverse effect (we don't want that)..

From where we just reversed (or cut if you did that), we fade.

That's it!

And the result:

Like I said, you can tweak this further and add other/more fades and at different times, stretch, add reverb, wha'evva!

I've been told that I should make the dropbox-files playabable through dropbox, but I still haven't figured it out how to do that.. :(
So...
Let me quote Futurama ep. War Is the H-Word:
"Alright, look. Our policy is: If for any reason you're not completely satisfied, I hate you."

Thanks, guys!

And I was trying to insert some sort of penis-joke in the title, but went with "My Sample Tutorial" so that people would know what it was about.. :D
Hopefully you can now use some samples you previously felt was too short.. it works for me..
