Is it true that TYR is touring North America right now...

METAL... nuff said!
...and is destined to perform in DETROIT this WEDNESDAY NIGHT???

Before we go totally apeshit and camp out at Blondie's front door this Wednesday, can anyone verify 100% that they are, in fact, playing at Blondie's???

Cuz if so.... I'm gonna make a wonderfully embarassing spectacle at this show....

Yes, it is true.

Have fun being their little bitch.

Tyr wears all sorts of armor*, so the chain mail shouldn't be a problem. The weapons, however......

Tyr is only on a few dates (five, I think) opening for Amon Amarth.

* now custom-made exclusively for them by my friend Digger, who sadly won't be vending at PP

Tyr are headlining a show in Chicago tomorrow with Earthen Grave at the Bottom Lounge...with also like 4 local openers. zero publicity on it too.

Even if they weren't going to be at Progpower I wouldn't go to that. 4 local openers is ridiculous. Like, worse than Pearl Room ridiculous.

Your complains are a bit exaggerated. Try having been at a show at L'Amour in Brooklyn, NY back when it was open. They had two rooms and yet, more openers than bands at ProgPower.

I vividly remember going to see Angra or Symphony X there (to name a few). Angra didn't take the stage until 12am because of the amount of openers. I believe SX also went on *really* late.

I recall running into Jeff Loomis just outside L'amours. He asked me, "Club management told us we're going on at 2AM. Can that be right?" I just laughed and said, "That's L'amours."

I agree. When will promoters learn that this man locals turn people off from coming to the show??? I see why they do it....but it backfires most of the time.

kinda sucks though because a band like TYR by themself will only pull 100-150 (at least here in FL), so in order to NOT go in the hole with their guarantee which is probably more than that, at say $15 a ticket, you have to have that many opening bands.

perfect example is the orlando wasp show which was saved by local bands ticket sales :)

Its not too bad as long as you have good opening bands too ;)

Ugh, was that the infamous Dimmu/Cob/Nevermore/Hypocrisy tour??

You are aware that the people at L'Amours started letting people in without a ticket, right? That's why the venue had about twice as much people as its actual capacity. It was hell. Hot as Africa in there. We ended up leaving before Dimmu took the stage, 'cause it was just unbearable.

Good thing I saw the same show a few days earlier in CT.

Dude surely they draw more then 150 in Florida since they drew that much in KC, and KC has pretty much 0 metal heads

hahah dude i PROMISE you that if its only them in the package, it would be only in that number,

I haven't heard of a show around hear in a long time where local support didnt save the promoters ass! LOL

Ensiferum (or however you spell it) came to orlando and had maybe 50-60 people there? granted it was on a week day bud damn! LOL still a great show.

WHAT?!!! How am I exaggerating? It's just a fact that that show has more openers than the Pearl Room (near Chicago) used to. The biggest complaint I ever had about that place. I realize that there have been other venues that have more local acts than that (and glad I haven't gone to them), but I guess I don't understand your comment of me exaggerating.

I understand why promoters do this, but at the same time it really does piss off the fans of the headliner. In my opinion at most, they should have two local acts and then the support acts, headliner.

I agree 100%. What usually ends up happening is most of the local openers play way past thier time on stage and then the headliner gets time cut. It happened when I saw Finntroll / Warbringer. It has happened this past weekend at a local show and many others. As of late I have blown off a few shows because I didnt want to be at a show all night waiting for 1 band who I have already seen a few times because of way to many acts that were local on the bill. I dont feel like getting home at 2 AM on a worknight. Bad move.

Unannounced local openers are a bait-and-switch. That's worth complaining about.

Announced local openers are a completely different story, and you have to nearly be a professional whinger to find something to complain about there. If you don't want to see the local openers, then don't show up that early! Seriously, I think some of you guys would find stuff to whine about if you won the lottery. "oh, this sucks, I have to pay TAXES, I have to find some place to put this giant pile of money, and worst of all, it'll be a lot harder for me to find things to complain about when I'm rich, and I just wouldn't be able to live without complaining all day long! That's it, I'm giving it back!"

I actually do agree with this. While I don't like local bands usually in general, the shows I've been to that I was pissed off about like the Pearl Room never advertised them as being on the bill. There just miraculously would be 1-3 opening bands without me knowing. The one I was most pissed about was the Candlemass show, where it was just advertised as them and Daylight Dies, yet I believe there were 3 (I believe) horrid local bands opening.

Some venues just don't even bother putting the locals on the flyers just out of plain lazyness and disregard. Even if they were booked at the same time as the headliner/support.

I do come late to shows that have way to many openers....I will never forget the first Finntroll tour. I got there 2 hours late just to miss the 4 local openers. I walked in real late...the first band was just getting off stage.:erk:
