Is there a metal vocalist with a higher range than 4 octaves?

I just got told by a professional singer that a 3-octave range is basically as good as it gets, if there's someone with a higher range, it's just a rare case.

Comments? And what's the range of some of the best singers out there?

Probably Mark Boals, even though his voice is intolerably bad, i suspect he can reach 4 octaves.

I don't think there is any metal vocalist with that much range, try another genre :)

Now if there was a scale to determine "rage" in vocals, Thomas Lindberg would definitely be up there in the ranks

Were they referring to only rock or metal vocalists though? What about opera, or choral music?

3 octaves (although it sounds small) is actually a pretty big range. Anyone here try to sing 3 octaves and you'll have IMMENSE difficulty.

Even in classical music, individual singers don't have THAT huge a range. That's why parts are divided into Tenors, Baritones, Alto's etc.

I can't think of any popular music vocalist who can boast a range of four octaves... not off the top of my head anyway...

No they don't, Michealangelo Battio is simply awful, right so he can play four guitar at once (actually since the guy can only physically play two at once there's really no point at all in the "quad guitar"), and Nitro are quite, quite simply shite.

See this ^, this is actually a person who is shit at being a human being, he is actaully a bad person.

I mean look at him...don't you just one to punch/kick/stab him?

I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

my vocal range is over 5 oktaves... from the bass lowest G to an octave higher than the highest G in the guitar... the highest is not very pretty but still vocal range ;P this is with falsetto counted in anyway....without falsetto my vocal range is about 4 octaves.

Umm, I think DTFM was making a joke...the guys name is Michealangelo which is the name of a certain artist...

I think quite a few people can get to 3. I can fairly easily, and I'm not a trained singer, but I can't see many professional singers going over 5.
