Seen some backlash against the hedonistic side of rock and metal lately, and it perplexes me. Have I consumed much beer and air guitared amongst the streets of New York City? Yes. Have I smoked weed while listening to Pink Floyd? Yes. Have I gotten laid while blasting Reign in Blood? Yes.

Is there a problem with any of this? Discuss.

Nope, but there is a problem with musicians being in music for sex or drugs.
Is this the general consensus of this little backlash then? I can see the point with this, when I first saw these discussions it seemed like the people were saying "sex and drugs have no place in rock n' roll!"

I think thats the problem with metal today, no one is into the hedonistic lifestyle anymore. Sure image etc, shouldnt be as important as the music, but shit metal is becoming some morass of music geeks and other geeks, because its just not cool anymore.

It used to be sort of cool in the 80's, and early 90's. CHicks dug metal, alot more people dug metal, as it was fun, a faster more violent version of rock etc. Now, I dont know. Too many people take themselves way too seriously. Rock and metal especially, is about rebellion, people as sickening as this sounds, will be turned onto livign out their own hedonistic dreams through the trials and tribulaitons of a rock star they love. There is a cult of celebrity the whole world worships, and how being a celebrity allows one to be beyond the law and other restrcitions of society. No one in metal understands this anymore. Thats why metal is sort of reliving its past of Mustaine, GNR, Phil Anselmo, Motley Crue etc. These guys were celebrities beyond the law, that people wanted to be, and therefore worshipped.
