It's been a while since we had a "greatest album covers" thread

I'll start this time.

Fucking great. I am in love with this cover. It seems a bit banal at first, but something about the way the colors interfuse with the simple scene makes it one of the most maudlin, uncomfortable and beautiful pictures I've ever seen.

I'm a sucker for Kristian Wahlin's covers, dunno why. I know they're kinda overwrought, but I just like them a lot. Favourite's probably Blood On Ice. There are so many more out there, but me memory aint what it used to be...

Sepultura wins this contest every time.

I really really really like the Roots cover as well, but it doesn't have Stonehenge so doesn't fit with this group. Either way, all four albums and their covers are UNRULY.

Nobody else is playing so I'll just go with some 2nd place albums. Tool, King Crimson, and Slayer always had good cover art.

I think Tool has the best art packaging ever, with Lateralus and ÆNIMA. If you've seen them in person, I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Okay THIS fucking rocks for Crimso fans, stumbled on it looking for a cover image:

I'll stick with metal since there are a million good covers out there...

And many more....

I think NAD summed it up with "Beneath the Remains" -- quite easily the greatest original cover art for any metal album IMO.

GOOD folk/black/something band formerly from Iceland but now... not from Iceland?, decent album. The more I think about it, the more evil an album like that is, because from a short clip of Vanadis or many of the other songs, it'd sound KICK ASS!!! but then when you tried to take in the whole thing, it would shoot itself in the foot by way of repitition.

First song: Hey this is sweet!
second song: cool stuff
third song: ok
fourth song: uhh... wasn't this song done already?
fifth song: is it over yet?
sixth song: [eject button]
seventh song: [this song is unknown to all listeners]

So like, are Enslaved considered Viking Metal? I just listened to Below the Lights and besides kicking a lot of ass, it has a pretty nifty cover:
