A Swedish court has ruled that the parents of a seven-month-old girl in Kungalv, Sweden can name their child Metallica, according to the Swedish newspaper GP. The girl's parents wanted to give their daughter a name that combined their first names. After picking Metallica and checking twice with the Swedish tax agency Skatteverket if the name was acceptable, they were told that it shouldn't be a problem since there is already a girl in Sweden called Metallica. When they filed Metallica as one of the girl's three first names, the Skatteverket suddenly objected, claiming that the name was inappropriate because a famous hard rock band bears that name and the fact that it's too close to the word 'metal.' The parents filed an appeal with the district court, which has now ruled that the use of the name won't pose any problems for either the girl or anyone that she comes in contact with. One member of the jury objected to the ruling, claiming that the name probably will cause discomfort to whomever bears it.

That is really, really, really, really, REALLY sad!!! Why don't parents think when they name their children!! I used to work in a kids club and we had some very weird names!!! Plum and Pocahontas being the two that stick out the most!!!!!

jejejeje mmmm i think my name is half weird half stupid jejeje it is.........Yoshiki.... a weird japanese name and i am Mexican.:erk:

But if it fits your enthic background, it's not stupid. It's when people knowingly give their kids "unusual" names to try and be exotic. I hate it when people try and be fancy with spelling too. I work sometimes with a girl called Zowie (Zoe). My parents were sensible, my sister is called Victoria and they wanted to spell it "Viktoria" but thought it's gonna get spelt wrong all the time so why bother!! Celebrities are the worse for giving kids stupid names - Apple, Heavenly Hirani Tiger Lily, Peaches, Moon Unit etc.

Exactly. If you work in customer service like I do, you'll see it all. What gets me sometimes (as much as the first names) is how many ways you see a last name spelled. I realize that some are foreign spellings happen, and that sometimes names are "Americanized", but wow are there some strange spellings for the same last name.

The girl's parents wanted to give their daughter a name that combined their first names.

Shall we make some wise-ass speculation as to what two names combine to become Metallica?

After all if we rearranged the letters we get :

Camel Tail (now Metallica is definitely better than this, as the poor girl would be subjected to a Guiness record number of wedgies.)

Lilac Meat (Lilac would make a nice girl's name, but adding the meat sounds like her parents were a very bizarre breed of vegan)

It All Came (insert stupid sex comment here)

Okay, Okay, y'all take the it over!
