Well, I'm sure you're not the only one, but you're in a very small minority. I actually don't know anyone who doesn't like those movies. I know a few people who haven't seen them yet, but everyone I know who has seen them at least really likes them.

What about the movies did you not like? Or maybe I'm assuming too much here... Did you not like the books or the movies? What didn't you like?

My brother doesn't like the way the movies end as opposed to the books. That is the closest I have ever heard of someone actually disliking the movies.....

There are many things I did not like about the movie. For example, I did not like how Gimli was the comic relief and how Peter Jackson neglected to show how the hobbits took back thier home(that part I felt was extremely important in the development of character of the hobbits) However those details did not matter because overall the movie was one of the best I ever seen, if not the greatest.

(on a side note, Peter Jackson is a Star Wars geek  )

I was pretty pleased with the 2 movies I've seen so far of the LotR series. I still have to see Return of the King, though...if I can ever find the time.

To be honest, I didn't care for the books as much, though. It's not that I'm a lazy reader, but I felt Tolkien was a bit too long-winded for my enjoyment.

Damn, I hope you never read Robert Jordan.

By the way, I really think they did a great job on the movies, probably the best that anyone could. There were extremely notable errors and exclusions, as any true Tolkien geek--such as myself--would have noticed, but from day one I knew not to expect an exact replica of the books. It would be nearly impossible. Still, Jackson and his team did an incredible job, and watching the behind the scenes footage on the EEs just makes you appreciate everything they did, down to the tiniest detail.

I read the books and I didn't like them... just not my thing. I've never been very fond of fantasy/sci-fi stuff. I'd read something if it was recommended to me, but I wouldn't go out of my way to read stuff in that genre. I don't see why everyone likes Tolkien though. He wrote the stories for his grandkids, so being a fan of LotR is comprable to being obsessed with Harry Potter (which I HATE), in my humble opinion.

Before anyone asks, I hate Harry Potter because it's all over the damn place. It was praised for getting kids to read and now it's getting kids to be bratty and annoying by making their parents buy them assorted (and equally annoying) Harry Potter merchandise.

Tolkien began creating the world of Middle Earth in his early twenties. I doubt he was thinking of his grandchildren at that point.

I never liked Harry Potter either.

I think the movies are great, but not as great as the books...Peter Jackson put to many things in it just to please those who have never read the books...
like when Legolas kills that Oliphant alone..just stupid, Legolas is just a regular elf, not Fingolfin or Glorfindel...

forget "lord og the rings" for a while, , what Tolkien really gave us,is what you can find in "Silmarillion" and other writings from those ages..I love "LOTR", but with "Silmarillion" he created a new and better world...

And without the Silmarillion, we wouldn't have "Nightfall in Middle Earth." Not sure how many of you listen to Blind Guardian, but I had to toss that out there. ;)

For me it was an ok read. I did not hate it but I did not like it either. My english teacher made a huge fuss about it though. She loved it like it was the greatest story ever. She also believed that Shakespeare was female.
