James and Megadeth.

it's not a good story, sadly. i was already very ill with the tumor... outward signs were poor memory and sleeping alot. i heard once that dave was quoted as saying i played well at the audition, but that i fell asleep several times in their dressing room at various points of the night.

I am very sorry to hear that James. :(

Thank God you are well now.

For what it is worth, IMHO, I suppose that the stage in Megadeth's lifecycle back when you were auditioning for them was not a very good one anyway. With a mediocre follow up to Risk and mounting tensions within the band, it would have done nothing to enhance your greatness in the world of music.

Thank you for your reply sir :)

Sorry to hound ya about this James. Just curious what you played with them that day if you remember? That would've been so cool to hear. I remember the Deth Boards were going crazy at the time thinking of the possibility of you on lead geetar alongside Mustaine.

sorry, but i just have no recollection at all of what was played.. my memories of that night are very spotty.. i don't even remember how i got back to SF.. i assume i flew though.

my pituitary gland was spinning out of control and wreaking all sorts of havoc on the rest of my endocrine system.. particulary my thyroid and adrenal glands were shot. plus the tumor was putting a great deal of pressure on my brain, effecting my memory, and was starting to intrude into my optic nerves, making my vision very poor as well. it's amazing i managed to play at all.

No worries at all James, I appreciate ya being so open about it all.

A bit of a cliche to say this, but I can't imagine what that would be like. Very sorry to hear what ya had to go through there.

I think the reason ya managed to not only play, but play well according to Dave (a guy known for not holding back if he thinks something sucks) is cause you're James Murphy dammit!!!!

Hell, this was the first time I'd even heard about James Murphy having gone out for Megadeth. Very cool, in my mind. Would have been interesting to see what would have come from that.

And James, I'm just glad to be able to say that. Even if that day is spotty to you, it's nice to know that you're still here to tell us that. Ive had two relatives who've had cancer that Im aware of. One of them had brain cancer and it was painful to watch them fade away and lose their memory. It takes so many, but I'm glad it didnt take you. Keep up the hard work and determination!

First post on this board, think I posted on the Death Tribute board a while back though...so yeah!
