Jeff Loomis or Alexi Laiho???

Hey Legions! I was just wanting opinions on these two legends of the axe. I haven't heard much Children of Bodom and only have one of their cds..Hatebreeder..which I don't listen to much because I don't care for it. I've been told that it's their worst one and I should pick up another one. I'm definitely planning on it..hatebreeder has me interested a bit and I can tell this band has potential for me. Anyway back to the subject..this is a poll..I think Jeff Loomis is one of the most incredible lead guitar players in the industry and I know Alexi is known for his kick ass weedling..soooo..in light of the upcoming tour I was wondering..who do you guys think is the best?

I can't vote because I can't make a fair judgement due to lack of knowledge as far as COB goes (think I'll throw Hatebreeder in my car tomorrow..give it another try)

I love Jeff's style! I was just talking to my bro the other day and Jeff is the first Lead Guitar player to come along that I actually admit could come close to rivaling Alex (for me) and this is a HUGE thing for me to admit because Alex is miles higher on the pedistal than any other in my eyes..but when I listen to Politics of Ecstasy..particularly This Sacrament I just can't get enough of the soloing in that album!

This is a tough one. Much tougher than Jeff vs Mike from Arch Enemy. I'd have to go with Alexi. He shreds away like none other, and writes some great riffs. Jeff is unbelievable too, so I am probably going to regret my choice... but in no way is Hatebreeder their worst album. Probably their best, imo. I like Hatecrew as well, but it doesn't have that neo-classical touch.

Definitely Loomis. Alexi has great pure playing ability, but when you slow down his riffs, they're really similar. Jeff is not only talented, but very creative as well...Nevermore has some fantastic melodies and riffs.

I think part of my problem with Hatebreeder is the keyboards kinda take over and lean a bit towards the cheesey side of things. Aside from that little element the riffing and soloing is killer..maybe I just need to listen more and I'll get used to it??

Have you heard their music Pyrus? I've only heard Hatebreeder..are the keyboards as dominant on their other cds? I have a really hard time with that! I like them in moderation, but when it's one of the focal points in the music I can't really deal with it. I want to hear the guitar...not the keyboards??!!

The latest news about keyboards and listening to music with keyboards featured prominently is that you will die. Friends don't let friends play keyboards. Damn I would hate to be a keyboard player, just think about it, playing guitar is much more satisfying to me, not to mention drums, I love playing drums, but when you get right down to it, guitar is what you should play.

Loomis owns Laiho, but I am pretty biased becasue I do not listen to CoB, and Loomis owns. My list for inspiration? Chuck Schuldiner-Always #1, Jeff Loomis, Skolnick. Marty Friedman, Trey Gunn, Mikeal Akerfeldt. Eh, yeah.

i like Nevermore more than COB but i think that Laiho is a better guitarist than Loomis, his solos are way better than Loomis

Imo, comparing these two is like comparing apples to oranges. Two very VERY different approaches when it comes to playing.....I voted for laiho however, since I'm not fond of nevermore in the least bit...So yeah, im one sided, but still..
