One of the most interesting things I heard in an interview with Jon on Powersurge the other night is that he plans to do a metal version of the above Webber/Rice musical- featuring the vocal talents of Matt Barlow, Hansi Kursch, Bruce Dickinson and Dio! Apparently it's going to happen, but scheduling is a bit of a problem.

For those who really need to know, Matt once starred in a high school production of Oaklahoma. Can you imagine it?

"The sun is as high as an elephant's EEEEYYYYEEEEE!!!"

Look for a complete transcript of this interview over at www.loudandheavy.com.au very soon :).

 - I don't know what to make of that.

Just mentioning names like Matt Barlow, Hansi Kursch, Bruce Dickinson and Dio in one sentance already soiunds great though!

Here's something else (about Dio), taken from Metal-Rules.com

Back in 1985 you were the mastermind behind the Hear n' Aid project. I know since then your involvement with helping those who are less fortunate has continued in an organization called Children of the Night. I was wondering what plans, if any, exist for a Hear n' Aid part two??

We are going to do one for Children of the Night, which will basically follow the same pattern as the Hear n' Aid project. It will be one song, Craig and I have already written the song and that will feature five or six guitar players and five or six singers. We will have other songs that will be given to us by bands of things that haven't been released yet. So it will be a full CD. At the same time we are going to re-release the Hear n' Aid album on CD because it's only ever been released in Japan on CD.

Will you invite back any of the same vocalists or guitar players who preformed on the first one.

Yeah, if they are available I will, sure. I don't want all of the same ones this time. Yngwie wants to do it so he did on the last one, so there's that possibility. As far as other guitar players go, I think Vivian (Camball) will contribute so that would be great. Bruce Dickinson is going to sing on it…we haven't really finalized all the people yet because it's a matter of time and when we can do it. With all the touring and other albums arriving…it will probably happen when we come back from doing this album, I'm sure that's when we're going to have to fit everything in.

:p Sounds cool

Mmmmmmmmm Iced earth.........
Sorry, lost my train of thought....

That actually sounds really cool, especially with dio, hansi and brucey in it!!
Imagine that, 4 of the greatest vocalists of all time on one stage, does it get any better?? (Maybe throw in rob halford?? :) )
Jon was saying in another interview that he would like to do something LIKE jesus christ superstar, i didnt think he would actually do the show itself! I think it would be even better if they all came up with a new idea to present, just because it would be more metal and play to the strengths of the vocalists (though admittedly they could pretty much pull off anything anyway)

Still, sounds great, id love to see it live, though of course, im sure that wont happen as we cant even get bruce, hansi, dio or matt here with their own bands! :)

How did I know Spawn would reply to this?

The JCS idea sounds absolutely phenomenal, especially since the only good thing about some of the earlier versions of this show was Ian Gillan's performance as Jesus!

Jon also said that Damien, Dracula and The Phantom Opera Ghost were among the most likely songs from Horror Show to be performed live. Great news, as these are all my faves from the album, but how would they do Phantom? It'd be difficult and expensive to bring Yuhuni (sp?) along on tour, especially since she has her own stuff to do.

PS: If anyone here can speak or understand Latin, I'd love a translation of what the choir is singing in Damien...

I can hear Iced Earth being mentioned in a whisper from 10 miles away :)

The chanting in Damien is random (thats what they say on the official Iced Earth board anyway) If I find out differently Ill let you know, it DOES sound like latin to me too though so who knows. Its an actual choir as well, not just someones voice tracked heaps, I dont know their name though.
As for phantom, they will probably use a backing tape (like they do for the female vocals in a question of heaven) Though for the european tour they might hire a woman to do it, as they sell out a lot bigger places over there and could probably afford it (especially considering its a whole stage show kinda thing). They are going to do just about all the horror show songs for the european tour as well, its almost 3 hours all up for their stage show, i WISH i could see it....but ive heard they are filming it for a DVD so hopefully they will as at least id get to see it then.
Heres a very long interview with Jon, he mentions maiden a lot, its pretty obvious who his favourite band are!

Right, my work here is done for now :)

Wow he also seems to love KISS :)

He has the same 2 favourite bands as me, and when you consider that he IS my other favourite band, heh... he is a bit of a champ i reckon! :D

i've actaully saw JCS when i was about 10...all i remember is that it had john farhnam and angry anderson in it
:)

I saw that. I also saw the one after it with Deni Hines as Mary and Jon Stevens as Judas (yes he was Judas in the John Farnham one as well)

I've also got the soundtrack with Ian Gillan as Jesus, as well as the original English Cast soundtrack.

I like JCS. I'd LOVE a metal version.
