Jet City JCA20H + HB G412 V30's (Rose content, beware :)

Just unpacked the infamous Harley Benton 4x12 loaded with V30's and gave it a quick try with my little 20 watt moster: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1809705/JCA20H HBG412V.mp3

I just quickly tried out every speaker, picked the best one and quickly reamped a clip of Jeff's Rose of Sharyn DI's as I'm swamped with other stuff right now. It's Profire 2626 -> TS808 -> JCA20H -> HB412 -> SM57 -> Profire 2626 -> A bit of EQ and low-mid compression. The cab sounds surprisingly good, I'm sure I can get some pretty decent tones out of it with a bit of tweaking. Sounds quite a bit different from the HB212 I used to own.

EDIT: Here are the other clips. See posts below for info.

I got fed up with paperwork so I thought I'd give this combination another spin and try a different kind of tone with Ola's third "mixing time" song (thanks for the tracks! :)): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1809705/JCA20H HBG412V Reared 3.mp3

This time I used an ages old Electrovoice PL80 on the cab. I'm not sure if it's just me or if there's something a bit funky about the DI's. All my attempts sounded really muddy and bad until I lowered the DI's output level by about 8dB. Maybe my dear 808 clone couldn't take Ola's br00talz without a bit of attenuation

EDIT: And don't mind the mix at all, I just threw it together real quick and concentrated on the guitars.

The drums are the original stereo mixdown, I didn't bother making new ones from the MIDI for reamping tests. I agree about the guitar tone, though. Funnily enough, the identical settings that worked with the Rose of Sharyn DI's sounded like absolute garbage with the Feared tracks. Naturally different players, different guitars and dual/quad tracking plays a major role in the tone, but the difference in the amp tone was huge. I had a hard time getting a decent tone out of the latter clip, and I couldn't get rid of the scratchy character. Then again, Ola's clips always sound absolutely awesome, so no doubt it's an user error on my end :)

I fiddled around a bit more with the Feared DI's today and came to the conclusion I just can't get enough gain from the JCA20 with these tracks. The preamp gain was full cranked on the clip I posted and sow as my TubeScreamer's level. So, I thought I'd try something... eh, special. I took the DI tracks, put PODFarm on them with only the Screamer model activated and then reamped the tracked through a real hardware TubeScreamer. Double TubeScreamers, double tightness, right? Anyway, here's what I came up with: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1809705/JCA20H HBG412V Reared DOUBLE TS.mp3

On that clip, the preamp gain on the amp is at about 13:30 and I switched back to the SM57. Night and day difference IMHO.
