The Rock & Roll High School podcast, hosted by 2X Grammy Award-winning producer and A&R executive Pete Ganbarg, welcomes legendary songwriter and musician Jim Peterik for an intimate and inspiring conversation on the latest episode of the acclaimed music podcast series.

A true architect of melodic rock, Jim Peterik’s influence on modern music spans decades, genres, and generations. From writing and performing the classic “Vehicle” with his band Ides Of March in 1970, to doing the same a dozen years later with the stadium-shaking anthem “Eye Of The Tiger” for his band Survivor – which earned him a Grammy, a People’s Choice Award, and an Oscar nomination – to penning hits for .38 Special, Sammy Hagar, and The Beach Boys, Peterik has helped shape the soundtrack of the last 50 years.

In this episode, Peterik discusses the stories behind some of his biggest hits, including Ides of March’s horn-driven, chart-topping classic “Vehicle,” which led to touring and major festival appearances alongside the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. He recalls a “wild introduction” to the world of Led Zeppelin at one of their after parties, and opens up about forming Survivor, meeting Sylvester Stallone, and writing a song Stallone requested would “outlive you and me.” That song became the iconic “Eye Of The Tiger,” which earned two Grammy nominations and won for ‘Best Rock Duo or Group with Vocal.’

Peterik also discusses working with .38 Special, Sammy Hagar, the real story behind Survivor’s “High On You,” writing “Burning Heart” for Rocky IV, “Indelibly Blue” for Reba McEntire, and co-writing “That’s Why God Made The Radio” with the legendary Brian Wilson for The Beach Boys.

The episode also highlights Peterik’s work as an author, including Songwriting for Dummies (now in its second edition) and his 2014 autobiography Through The Eye Of The Tiger. He reflects on his ongoing projects with World Stage and Pride of Lions, and his enduring passion for songwriting and touring after decades at the top.

From his humble beginnings in suburban Chicago to the global stage, Peterik shares hard-won wisdom on longevity, reinvention, and the power of great songwriting.
