With rumors swirling since Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and bassist Frank Bello were seen together with former ANTHRAX vocalist Joey Belladonna late last month in New York, the band - Benante, Bello, and guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano - is elated to announce that Belladonna has officially rejoined the band. In his once and current capacity, Belladonna will make his first appearance with Anthrax this summer when the band joins METALLICA, SLAYER, and MEGADETH - The Big Four founding bands of the thrash genre - to co-headline a series of Sonisphere Festivals in ten European cities, as well as playing a handful of Anthrax-headlined shows (itinerary is below).

"I am super excited about this," said Scott Ian. "Joey and the rest of the band came to see me play at a club in New York, I hadn't seen Joey for years, since the end of the reunion tour. Joey taps me on the shoulder, instant big hug, it felt like no time had gone by. The band dynamic is an interesting one - in Anthrax, Joey and I spent so many years of our lives together, we grew up together, we know each other so well, so it was like no time was lost."

Belladonna, an essential part of Anthrax's lineup from 1985 to 1992, sang on some of the band's most popular albums including Spreading the Disease, Among the Living and Persistence of Time. He had reunited with original members of Anthrax for the 2005 - 2007 "Among the Living Tour," but this situation is different. Explained Belladonna, "I had been in touch with Charlie and Frank, then I got a call from their manager who said that everyone wanted me back in the band. I thought, 'are you guys for real? You want me up there, fronting the band like it was before?' I was thrilled. We've already started to reconnect with the old ways of having conversations. Everything is easy going and feels really good."

"We're going to do these summer shows and gel as a band," explained Charlie Benante, "get comfortable playing with each other again, and the energy from that should go right into making new music."

Immediately following the final Sonisphere festival in early August, the band will fly back to the U.S. and begin writing and rehearsing for a new album that's expected to be out in early 2011.

"We've got an unusual luxury of hindsight," added Ian. "We finished an album a year ago, we've lived with those 12 songs since then, and we can look back on them and see what we really love and what we can make even better, especially with Joey back in the fold."

Added Benante, "There are five or six songs from a year ago that we don't want to change, we love them the way they are, other than having Joey making them his own with his vocals. Then there's another five or six that we may want to rework, and then there are a bunch of other tunes that are still in the early stages, that we want to finish.

"The band has been on an emotional roller coaster since last summer," Benante continued, "but I think everything that we've had to deal with during that time was pushing us toward this, to Joey being back in Anthrax, and the timing couldn't be more perfect or appropriate. To have Joey with us playing these shows with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth is the way it should be - as Anthrax's vocalist from '85 to '92, he was part of The Big Four."

"John was a real stand up guy about the situation," said Ian, about John Bush, Anthrax's vocalist from '92 - '05. "He knew we wanted to move forward at full speed, that we needed a total commitment to Anthrax, and he knew that wasn't what he wanted. We certainly wish John well. We've had so many great times with him, and we appreciate his stepping in last summer at the last minute, and performing with us since then. He will always be an integral part of the Anthrax family."

With worldwide sales in excess of 10-million, Anthrax is about to celebrate its 29th year as a band. Over its career, Anthrax has received multiple Gold and Platinum albums, multiple Grammy nominations, and a host of other accolades from the press, industry and fans.

I wonder who will be the next lead singer?

I'm rather shocked by this, since it seemed like they were going to go forward with Bush. Personally, I enjoy the stuff they did with Bush more than the stuff with Belladonna.

Good, hopefully this will FINALLY put the final nail in the ANTHRAX coffin.

Used to be my favorite band when I was growing up.

These past few years have been nothing short of embarrasing for them.

Maybe Scott and Charlie need to realize that life will exist for them if ANTHRAX is gone. Sure, maybe Scott won't get on lame VH1 and E! Channel specials, but whatever.

Someday, Joey will grow a backbone.

Why should he?
He was never into metal to begin with.
His all time favorite band is Journey!
(nothing wrong with Journey, by any means)

Just saying is that metal to him has been nothing but a payday.

As I said, playing hole in the walls with Jack Frost, or festivals with Scott and Charlie?

This is actually surprising news to hear, considering I thought their last departure wasn't very positive. From what I recall, didn't Joey stonewall the rest of the Anthrax guys after being invited by Heaven and Hell to open for them?

JOURNEY is my favorite band, and i scream in a death metal band. joey's solo records were metal, anthrax is metal. also, last time i checked any band anyone is in usually has a "payday." shit, i don't tour the country because i "love metal" i do it because i make some money WHILE getting to play my music. anyone who says money isn't an issue while being in a band is a liar.

funny thing is that is re-joining a band he helped to establish and is somehow getting talking shit on. fan now or fan before, regardless, it's kind of fucked up (IMO) to talk shit on him for getting back in his band because of money. it's a job, period. i would much rather work in anthrax than a regular day job.

Exactly dude.
My comment about the payday was in response to Pate's statement that he should grow a backbone.

Why should he? He is doing it for the $$$$$$.

The difference is you like metal, in addition to Journey.

Joey has ALWAYS made statements about not being into metal at all.
Just stating the facts.

YEs, for him, none of this has to do with having integrity.

It's Scott who consistently looks like an assclown, in slamming both Joey and John, but then asking both back on multiple occasions.

As for Joey, I say go for it! Milk it for what it's worth!!!!!

Won't get a penny out of me though.

You bring up some valid points. I have one question though, how do you reason you're not supporting a project without hearing it? Its like you are damning a new CD without hearing it just because of band politics. Isn't it all about the music. If the music kicks ass who really gives a shit who's taking a dump on who. I'm not even talking about Anthrax either. I loved Judas Preist, and when Halford left I intially was totally against the new singer Ripper. I gave it a listen and liked what I heard. Same with John Bush era Anthrax, gave it a shot and liked it. I could name plenty I didn't. I just think its a bit Naive to pass judgement before judgement can be handed out. Wait to hear the offering, then and only then will your opinion have any merit.

Meh, my interest in Anthrax is primarily when John Bush is at the mic. I just hope he made them pay when he bailed them out on all those festival appearances after the Dan Nelson split.

The best part of this news for me is the possibility of a full-time Armored Saint.

This is somewhat relevant to my interests. I've never really been a fan of Anthrax, but I do enjoy a lot of the 80's era stuff with Joey on vocals. I've always preferred his vocals over John Bush's..

We will see how long this lasts. They've screwed Joey over before, I'm sure they will do it again. It's too bad too, Joey is one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and no matter how much they fuck him over, he just keeps coming back. He lives to be in Anthrax.

Love the insight from those who get all their "facts" from competing press releases (which are mostly BS).

The simple truth is: Joey lives to be in Anthrax. Despite all the band politics, the truth of which is not out in front of the fans, the guy just wants to front Anthrax.

This is a happy day for me. My favorite band from high school, back in its most potent form. Seeing them perform Among The Living in its entirety in 2006 remains one of the best concert-going experiences of my life. :headbang:

I know there's no predicting how long it will last. This is one dysfunctional family. I just plan to enjoy the hell out of the ride while it lasts :kickass:

I grew up with the Joey era Anthrax, so it's hard for me to get anything out of the Bush era. John Bush has always been one of those singers that I didn't mind listening to, but never was a "fan" of. Quite frankly I hope this opens the door for Danny to come back as well. Anthrax to me is Joey, Danny, Frank, Scott, and Charlie.

Overkill are one of those bands that just plow forward. Ironbound is my disc of the year, Well till the new new Annihilator!!!:kickass:

I love both discs but I think that the Overkill is slightly better. Now, we all know I am a bigger Annihilator fan, but I had my expectations for the new Annihilator. It was great, I knew it would be. They all are in my opinion. As for the new Overkill, I went in with really low expectations based on the last couple of albums and was completely blown away by how badass it was and how back to form they were. Now, with that said... if I had never heard either band and I put both albums side by side, I would probably prefer the Annihilator.
