John Walker Lindh

I believe if he truely denounced his American citizenship, then treat him as an Afgan. If he is still an American citizen then charge him with treason. Remember that old saying "love it or leave it"? He chose to leave it. But dont think that me saying this means Im supporting him or Afgan, because Im NOT. Just because he choose to leave didnt give him the right to join a group of people hellbent on killing Americans or anyone else for that matter.

Don't you think that once he was there, he had no way of backing out? It seems very possible to me that once he was in over his head, that for fear of his own life he would have played the part regardless of his true convictions (whatever they might have been)

i think its kinda strange how we persecute this man for being part of the taliban when the taliban was funded my the good ol USA? its true, the gov't funded the taliban's rise to power because we used them as a mere tool to fight the russians during the afghan/soviet war.

I pity him for being an impressionable loser so desperate to belong somewhere, anywhere. (There was a fascinating story on him that talked about how, as a youngster, he tried desperately to be accepted among black people.) But I don't pity the situation he's in right now.

I don't care if he's killed, jailed or set free. I don't think he's important enough for us to waste any time, energy, or money on him. People get all worked up, shouting, "He's a traitor! Treason! Terrorist!" That gives him too much credit. Those titles seem like they should be reserved for people with actual plans. He's nothing more than a stupid kid.

well we have David Hicks here, and I can't see any problem with him (he didnt kill any australians;) ), but i dont know about lindh

blackmetalamp: This thought just entered my head: Dosent he make a good face to put on tv being they cant find Bin Laden? Gotta give America something to see even if its not really all that important. Right?

exactly, and same thing with bin laden. the american public wants someone to be pissed at, but the people who crashed the planes are already dead, so you through a terrorist fundraiser guy on the screen to blame and everyone's happy. and don't even try to tell me that bin ladin was the only mastermind behind any and all terrorism, he's just a rich man who gives money to religious inspired suicidal maniacs.

Exact-a-fuckin-mundo! Don't hear a whole lot about Bush's policy making these days, do we?

i think you misunderstood me, luke. i mean he gets other people to do his dirty work for him. there's no doubt he's got his own agenda. bin ladin is actually a perfect example of history repeating itself.

after WWI germany was in ruins and people looke for a place to turn for answers. they looked to hitler because he rebuilt germany's economy and was viewed as a saviour. bin ladin played a large part in recruiting and organising defense against the soviet union during the soviet/afgahn war, so he to became a hero like hitler. the afghans adn the germans at the tiem were both living in shit so they found answers wherever they could find them. both hitler and bin ladin preyed upon a tired and dying people and used there trust and faith to get across a genocidal agenda.

i was basically saying that, although bin ladin is a propagandist and fund supplier for many terrosrist groups, its just a face to put to a group of people. there are tons of terrorist leaders out there, it wasn't just one man who brought the towers down.

I think it's ridiculous that we have allowed Taliban soldiers to be released in Afghanistan if they swear allegiance to the new government but keep Lindh. We have only detained AL QAEDA members, and while he DID train at an Al Qaeda camp, he was a TAliban fighter, which thusly shows a faulty, hypocritical sense of justice on the US' part. Oh, well. Personally I think that his belief in an extreme form of religion shouldn't be enough to charge him with terrorism, unless we are willing to charge all extreme religous people as well.Given that many extreme christian conservatives are in power in government, this doesn't seem likely. To me it just seems like Christians are just trying to get another sect they dislike to disappear.

I heard rumors that mossad warned the NSA that there will be such an attack in time to come, but the NSA didn't take it seriously. But they were just rumors i guess.

Speaking of bin laden, i dont think it was him that came up with the attacks. it was some assosiate of his, who is also part of the al-qaeda netword, one of the big guys, he used to be a policeman in egypt. i've heard people say that he was the mastermind behind the attacks, i think that bin laden was just a financial means of making them take place.

as far as john walker... all i can say is that why he, and all other taliban fighters, would want to join the taliban? i mean, they are the most backwards peolple i've ever seen in my life! there is no religion that dictates such laws as he does does (mohammed omar).

I could care less about John Walker Lindh.

People join cults, follow religion, believe everything everybody tells them. He made a choice, whether he was mind-fucked or not. He may truely believe what he did was right, or he may just be a clueless follower. This kind of thing happens every day.
