apparently, my high blood pressure is NOT caused by sleep habits. although this was the most uncomfortable test i've ever taken in my life. hahaha

anyone else have one of these done?

this is NOT me, but this is just half the wires attached (with glue) to your body
sleep.jpg

you sleep in a room much like a hotel room, and the wires can tell the technician a multitude of things:
1. when you reach rem
2. brainwaves
3. grinding of teeth
4. snoring
5. blood pressure
6. level of oxygen reaching your body
7. level of sleep
8. body temperature
9. heart rate and ekg
10. movement of feet/ hands (in case of flailing them in sleep)
so they basically hook you up to this crap and tell you to try and sleep like normal, though the cords have a slack of maybe 17 inches tops. hahaha. so you cant roll over, cant lay certain ways, and cant really move.

and if by some reason one of the nodes stops operating due to malfunction or it coming undone, they stop the test, wake you up and reapply the node.

seriously, i was in a room next door to a chronic snorer, and on the other room was a sleepwalker. i felt like i was in nightmare on elm street. hahaha

the results will take 20 days, and im just glad i dont have apnia. i saw the mask they make you wear at night, and its fucking horrible looking.

aka darth vader.

so if your doctor asks you to do a sleep test, kindly decline. :)

Well, I'm starting to doubt my possibility of having a form of sleep apnea because quite honestly, I don't wake up in the middle of the night (that I can remember) feeling like I haven't been breathing. I also believe I don't snore. I have never been told that I snore and I have never heard myself snore when I've been in a Focus 10 state of consciousness (body asleep/mind awake) which I do very frequently.

Though for the past couple of years, I constantly feel as if I am never refreshed and have the tendency to sleep too much, especially as of late. I was in sales in the bedroom furniture industry for about two years so I know that specific matresses make a difference when it comes to the different stages of sleep. I think I mainly hover around the first and second stages of sleep and don't get the hours necessary to rejuvenate in the deep cylce sleep stages.

theres a couple of different things it could be, honestly.

You might not be reaching rem sleep, and therefore while you're trying to refresh, you're not gaining a lot. And yes, certain types of matresses can affect sleep. Posturepedics are wonderful!

Sleep can also be affected by small things, including caffeine, alchohol, weight, and even your intelligence level.

first off, you don't always have to wear a mask like that, i have sleep apnea and i got a mouth piece that is essentially like a retainer you'd have for braces, its really not that bad. also i have had a sleep study yeah it does suck but its not horrid, they can give you drugs to fall asleep if you really have a problem. also to the guy who said he thinks he doesn't have sleep apnea because he doesn't wake up at night, you don't always know you're waking up, what it does is you wake up enough to disturb your sleep cycle but not enough to become fully concious so you could have it and not even know it. if you think you have it or are really tired even after sleeping normally you should definately get it checked out, helping to cure it really can make you feel a lot better.

Well, I love caffeine but don't consume nearly as much as I used to and the same goes for alcohol. I'm not really overweight so that isn't an issue. My mind is constantly working, though, so I know that it can have something to do with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't REM (dream) stages 1 and 2, the more surface areas of sleep and stages 3 and 4 are the deep cycle, rejuvenation processes?

I'm rooting for Fatal Familial Insomnia. How awesome would that be?
