5150 II w/footswitch and 5150 cab(sheffield 1200 speakers). Brand new tubes. Paid $600US for everything. Did I get a good deal? Any thoughts/comments on this rig?

Yep good deal, you pretty much got a free cab.

The drivers in the cab aren't good for recording though. What I did with my old peavey cabs, was pull 2 (or all four) and replace them with V30's.

Or just sell the cab and buy a different one. But with V30's in them, they are just as good as any other cab out there.

Yeah that's kinda the way I looked at it. Half stack for the price of the head. Whats the cab worth?

Great price!

I disagree about the Sheffields not being good for recording (though V30s are excellent speakers). I recently did a record in which we got an INSANE guitar tone - the guitarist had a 5150 cab and had replaced two of the speakers with Eminence Legends. I told him not to tell me which speakers were which, and ending up favoring one of the Sheffields, it sounded great with his 5150 head.

You are seriously the first person I've heard that's liked the shef's. But I suppose different things work for different things.

I will admit, the shef's sound great cranked live, at band practice, etc.
