To have a look at fixing it for a friend....

My word these things are complicated!! so much shit going on! So many flying leads and loose molex connectors. Think they were the problem..
HMMMMMMM.

just a hint: as far as i remember, the dsl-series had a lot of troubles with the bridge-rectifier for the preamp-tubes... ;)

c46 was burnt out...

Standard

that's a common issue, but usually not a reason to open the damn thing up. I had a friend with a TSL100 that I worked on a few times and learned to hate. loose CON5 connector, so channels didn't switch, fried c46, and kept blowing fuses. Discovered that these have a really bad bias drift problem and I think I solved it by using lower tolerance flameproof resistors? not sure, that might have been a different amp. a few weeks later one of the output tube sockets arced and i had to replace that. after all that he got rid of the damn thing.

Wow, that's ridiculous :erk:
Too add even further insult to injury, it's not even a good sounding amp either.
At least the DSL can sound pretty beastly, but the TSL is just garbage.
Honestly just better to fuck off that entire JCM 2000 range and go straight to the JVM 410H really.

hahaha. Funny thing is, this is MY old amp I sold to a friend.
In the 5 years I owned it, I never ONCE had an issue with it, except when my other guitarist borrowed it, and the bias drift began!

This thing was noisy as fuck, so C46 may HAVE to be replaced.

okay.. can't find a fucking replacement for this cap....
22pf at LEAST 500v minimum... Does this cap have to be ceramic?

i don't think so, just make sure if you get an electrolytic cap that it's not polarized.

recommended advice on C46 is to snip or replace with 1500v ceramic cap (if you feel you must have a cap there) - why they put one in the first place is beyond me since the amp doesn't oscillate as far as I can see on a scope

^also contains info on the bias drift problem.

Thanks guys... Any thing non polarized yes? I'll probably have to get it from maplin, as I only need one, and don't need order a load of shit... FML they are such a bunch of useless cunts.

not overkill, this one will work perfect! (i often used these murata-caps in my diy-builds) the 500Vdc-rating is anyway to small in my opinion.
btw, you will not find polarized caps in that pico-farad-range... ;)

cheers!

Those things are pretty crazy inside, but not quite as much as the 6100:
