KAMELOT's 'Poetry For The Poisoned' To Receive U.S. Release Via KMG RECORDINGS - July 21, 2010

American/Norwegian metallers KAMELOT have formed the recording label Kamelot Media Group (KMG Recordings). Teaming up with DisManic Distribution via E1 and the brand marketing and promotions company Knife Fight Media, KMG's premier label release will be the North American debut of KAMELOT's highly anticipated ninth studio album, "Poetry For The Poisoned", due on September 14.

The formation of KMG Recordings seems a natural progression for KAMELOT, which is considered to be one of metal's most unique, influential and prestigious acts to come along in decades.

Commented guitarist Thomas Youngblood, "We are in a very unique and fast-changing era for the music world.

"I am very excited about the new venture of KMG in North America.

"We have a team of experienced and passionate people working with us on this new release, which will be another step for KAMELOT and our fans."

KMG Recordings turned to Gunter Ford, music veteran and founder of World Entertainment Inc., and Knife Fight Media, who worked with KAMELOT on the "Ghost Opera" and "The Black Halo" releases, to oversee and manage the new label. Gunter stated, "In these changing times, Knife Fight Media was created in order to provide marketing, promotion, product development and label management services for artists and labels in need of maximizing their brand in a fast-changing and challenging landscape of the North American music industry.

"I believe the KAMELOT 'brand' is one of the leaders in its genre.

"I will be working closely with Thomas Youngblood, Roy Khan, DisManic and the Knife Fight Media team around this fantastic new release to grow 'Poetry For The Poisoned' even beyond the level of success we experienced with their previous releases in North America."

KAMELOT's reputation among fans and media alike is marked by enthusiasm as well as esteem, with each of its eight studio albums to date surpassing its predecessor in terms of songwriting, production and commercial results. As one of the most difficult-to-categorize artists on the metal scene, KAMELOT is ready to release its most insightful and ambitious album to date, "Poetry for the Poisoned".

Throughout the recent years, KAMELOT's releases have achieved cult status around the world, and "Poetry for the Poisoned" will "once again raise the bar for others to follow," according to a press release. "The new studio album blends their trademark KAMELOT sound with new elements and a creation of musical art that will set a new standard in the genre."

"Poetry for the Poisoned" was mostly written in the remote woods of Norway to the final songwriting sessions in a remote region of Germany. The compositions take the listener through many emotions and dynamics that touch the soul and the mind.

"I think this album is by far our most diverse, fusing new ideas and elements along with the traditional KAMELOT sound and style that we have established over the years," states KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood.

Recordings took place in the familiar Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany with producers Sascha Paeth and Miro. Additional tracking also took place in Tampa, Florida as well as various studios in Sweden, Greece and the U.S.

"Poetry for the Poisoned" features guest appearances by Simone Simons (EPICA), Gus G. (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIREWIND), Björn "Speed" Strid (SOILWORK) and Jon Oliva (SAVATAGE, JON OLIVA'S PAIN). The artwork was created by many great artists, including Seth Siro Anton, Natalie Shau and Michal Loranc.

"'Poetry For The Poisoned' is a mix of progressive elements, modern rock, dark arts and also power metal," states Youngblood. "It comes at a time where many people around the world are searching for something to grab on to spiritually, including myself. I recently lost my mother and to be honest it was very hard on me. So there are some melancholy moods reflected on this album."

Frontman Roy Khan assures that "Poetry for the Poisoned" will both please the band's existing following and expose the universe of KAMELOT to a whole range of new fans. "'Poetry for the Poisoned' is our longest and toughest production so far, but when I hear the result I know it was well worth the struggle," he says.

"Poetry For The Poisoned" will be available in three versions:

KAMELOT recently tapped Swedish director Owe Lingvall of Village Road Films for the video shoot and production of the song "The Great Pandemonium".

Simone Simons — the longtime girlfriend of KAMELOT keyboardist Oliver Palotai — previously appeared on the song "The Haunting", which was included on KAMELOT's 2005 album "The Black Halo".

KAMELOT will embark on its first North American tour in two years in September. Support on the trek will come from LEAVES' EYES and BLACKGUARD.

Very interesting how many new releases are coming out on vinyl.

I was just thinking about that the other day. It's becoming popular again, it seems. However, most of the new vinyl releases I come across are really overpriced. I wonder if it's really just because most bands still call it "collectors items" or what...
 
It's the vinyl grade. 180 gram is better than the standard from the 70s and 80s (at least when comparing new and old records that I own). I think there are other less obvious differences too. I'm happy about the vinyl resurgence except for the price. I paid (reluctantly) $18.50 for Volbeat a few weeks ago. Yikes. Umphrey's McGee's newest album for $16...twice the price as its Amazon mp3 download, but I sprang for the vinyl because I was in the mood. Heh. Gone are the days of $10 records, I guess. Although I keep seeing Dream Theater Systematic Chaos for 9.99 on shelves. I won't touch those 29.99 and up special issues.

On a semi-related note - what do you all think about all the guest vocalists/players showing up on each other's albums? Seems to be quite the trend, especially with certain bands. Might sound great on the record, but what happens live? Do you like it? Does it bug you? I guess they can always "sample" the guest voice when playing live - or have someone else do it? What do you all think about this "trend"?
 
I'm neutral on it myself - a guest appearance or the choice of the guest rarely has a big impact on my reception of a piece of music. There can be an effect on my anticipation of the album -I really like Gus G and Jon Oliva so knowing that they are on the album gets me excited to hear it.

When playing a song live without the guest I'm always fine with a regular band member handling the part on stage.

I've really only noticed the high prices with metal. Most punk/hardcore vinyl releases are $12-$14.

lol, some of that press release is major league pretentious, but I'm looking forward to this. Hope there is a little more meat on there then on 'Ghost Opera', which felt uneven in places.
