blood feud, haunted woods, faeries, all in an alternate Britain of the dark ages.

post me some recommendations for some fantasy reading.

^ I'll check it out Rick!

although, I gotta tell you, seeing my name there in the same line with
"fantasy fiction fans" made me feel like a nerd.
not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

I'm reading Game Of Thrones now, by George R. Martin have you heard about it?
It's super good!

well DUUH, you are a nerd
:D

DUNE series. im on book two, and it totally rules. as did book one.

edit: its actually sci-fi not fantasy i guess. no faries or dragons or whatnot.

Game of Thrones is awesome. I got nerdy on Martin a long long time ago, helped forge the path to my full on geekness.

I'll have to check out this one, thanks for the heads up.

Yeah - most of the 'Eternal Champion' books are good (Corum, Hawkmoon etc), but the Elric series was my fave. Would probably make an amazing movie if anyone ever attempted it. 'The War Hound & The World's Pain' was a good read too. All about the Holy Grail. Spent hours & hours & hours when I was younger reading Moorcock....ahhh, those were the days........ :dopey:

he is the only fantasy authur that can make you laugh in front of your book.

Stephen King in his Dark Tower series books had some entertaining bits. ore than a few times i was laughing or smiling throughout those books. If you haven't read any of the Deark Tower, you're missing out.

I haven't tried Pratchett but i've been tempted to several times. I've also read Wheel of Time(of course) but it can be infuriating, The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, several series by Terry Brooks, Runelords by David Farland, umm i know there's more....

Wheel of time by Robert Jordan is awesome UNTIL book 7 when it got so boring
I actually thought about what kind of Origami I can do with the pages....
but the first 7 books are awesome!

Yea, Jordan just seemed to meander pointlessly for a bit there. Still does a bit but i've started it and so will finish if i can. There's only going to be 2 or 3 more books in the series and it will finally be finished.

I have the first 2 books of Jordan's Wheel of Time series but have not started it. Is it that good that even though it meanders a bit you would still finish out the series? I don't want to start a series that is only going to piss me off in the end.

I recommend the Jaran series by Kate Eliott: Jaran, His Conquering Sword, Earthly Crown and The Law of Becoming. It is fantasy in the vein of Jordan with a smidge of scifi thrown in. I also recommend China Mieville's Perdito Street Station and The Scar (haven't read others yet). It's fantasy but with more steampunk than medieval flavors. Irrespective both were a great read.
