ok... this is a bit more coherent...
Less than 2 hours of sleep...
Anyway, I went to my favorite theater last night (The Arclight in Hollywood... assigned seating... great atmosphere... can't beat that) to catch the Kill Bill saga back to back.
At 9:30, Kill Bill volume 1 started at the Dome theater. The place was PACKED. There were people dressed like the Crazy 88's, and there was one guy wearing the Uma biker outfit (not as well and as flattering to him, as it was to Uma in the film.
As with most of the special screenings at the Arclight, there were no trailers, and the feature started promptly after the usher introduced it.
I have to say that I LOVE this film, but not for the reasons mostly everyone else in the theater tonight. I've always likened filmmaking to painting a picture. You have the filmmakers that are good at both the storytelling end, and the filmming end. Quentin Tarantino has a finesse for both. He can write some of the most memorable dialogue, but he compliments it with some beautiful colour schemes and some of the coolest music.
Kill Bill volume 1 was a bloody limb-hacking fest. Kill Bill volume 2 is more about the characters and why they are where they are. Sure, there's quite a bit of violence. The fight between Elle Driver (Darryl Hannah) and The Bride (we get to find out the character's real name... and QT dropped hints to it in the first film), is nothing short of classic Hong Kong. But, when she finally gets to Bill... that's some of the best face-off scenes, and some of the best dialogue Tarantino has written...
This movie has a completely different tone from the first one complimenting it PERFECTLY.
So far this year, I have not been disappointed by the flicks I was looking forward to...
Hellboy... Brilliant (GDT rules)
and now this...
GO SEE IT! (helps to see the first one again first....):hotjump: :hotjump:
