Great to find a forum without all of the egos. Great information that gets shared here. Look forward to contributing. Here's my current rig:

Welcome!

You will find a constant 6-related dig at DURBANS but that has become a forum tradition already. Except that we are a happy family.

engl....drool.. ohHhHhhhH.....

I don't understand why everyone is so powerball obsessed, the powerball IMO when the gain is turned up, sounds really sterile n just doesn't seem to have that instant loudness....i dunno, my old 5150 n dual recto seemed to have more about them and IMO my krank owns them! :loco:

Sweet rig tho, altho i've never been keen on 85s in the neck! :erk:

I don't believe I have ever run the gain past 4.5 on the Lo (3) or Hi Gain (4) channel's. Like on any amp, too much gain = too much mud with little to no definition. The amp cuts so much better when the gain is set low. Get much more of that coveted "crunch".

It is a Hellraiser. So far, I have really been pleasantly impressed with Schecter. Wanted and intended to get an ESP MH-1000 but walked out with the Schecter instead. Pretty identical in lots of ways but preferred the neck on the Hellraiser. I have actually been playing around with the idea of switching the 81 with an 85 in the bridge position. I have heard some clips that have impressed me. Any suggestions?

Hey Gibson, aren't you from Lord Riffenstein's forum  Howdy

As for the Powerball, there is absolutely no reason to ever go beyond 3 / 10 gain even on the third channel. It has a helluva lot more gain even then than you'd ever need unless you do black metal :)

Just because other amps sound best at higher gains doesn't mean you need to go there with the Powerball :p

Agreed. There's some really cool people here who have been a huge help.

Welcome! I have an ESP MH 400NT (we have similar tastes - it's just like the MH 1000 except trans black instead of gloss black.) I put an EMG 85 in the bridge position and kept the stock 81 in the neck position. I also have an ESP F 2005 with dual 81s in it, and I definitely prefer the sound of the 85 (I'll be putting one in the F 2005 soon.) Switching to the 85 was a decision I made based on James Murphy's advice.

I am the same Gibson!

I am totally with you. I did notice that the Hellraiser can handle more gain (around 5) than the EBMM 7-string. For some reason, it stays more defined with the EMG's than the passives. I love the sound of the EBMM on lower gain levels. Personally, I was never a big fan at all of channel 4 (Hi Gain) with the passives. That channel sounds much better with the active's. I still don't use channel 4 much but it sounds much more usable than with the Petrucci. It's nice having some choices!

I may have to give it a try. I heard it is a bit more rounded than the 81. Don't get me wrong, I like the 81. Definitely seems to be leaning more towards higher end frequencies. I am enjoying my first try at active pickups. Been playing passive's for the past twenty years. It's opening up a whole new realm of ideas!

I've got an old 80's model ESP custom shop Horizon with a Duncan JB in it... works well enough.

How's that G-Flex? I was asking about them a few weeks ago, but I dont think anybody had experience with one at the time. What's the advantage/disadvantage of having the 2X12 instead of the 4X12?

Awesome, a Schecter user. It's nice to see that the Hellraiser is actually available in that trans red sort of finish. I'm looking at buying a C-7 Hellraiser and all I've been able to find is Gloss Black finish.

Anyhow, enjoy your time here. It's a great forum.

The 7-string version is only available in gloss black.

Well, the Powerball kicks some serious ass!!! I LOVE either the real amp (tried at Lucky Music here in Milan, price around 1500 Euros - about 1300 dollars) or the Pod XT metal pack model (I keep the gain at 2 'o clock and I don't hear much fizziness or muddiness, EMG 85 on the les paul or Epiphone passive on the explorer sound awesome no matter what).

Bro, dollar lost a lot of value. That would be more like 1800 dollars I think. ;)
