:zombie: does anyone know any of the microphones that Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage uses live?

Thanks

I wouldnt be surprised if was a sm58 , most likely he'll just use whats there.

Remember its not the mic that makes his voice :P

haha his voice is amazing, and an SM58 would be an injustice.

It's definitely not an SM58...it's easily recognizable, I've been beating my brain in some of the live performances to figure it out.

Seems like a 58 to me.

Don't know about this one, though:

How would it be an injustice? A great voice through a 58 will sound great.

Personally, I've had better clarity with other microphones
the SM58 is the industry standard, but i don't think it does the best justice for clean vocals in a heavy band, unless there's other things working in the vocalists favor

I have about 4 SM58's and I really dislike them for vocals.

They sound kinda dead.

The Beta 58 is way better and helps so much with its extra sensativity.

Really can save your voice from trying to project screams and such.

I hear the Wireless versions are even better. Supposed to have a level adjustment on them that gets the mic louder before you start having feedback issues. Haven't actually tried it yet.

Im guessing that the world a blaze dvd has been rerecorded as the guitars definitely sound like they are. Not just reamped, but overdubbed. The pinches are beyond ridiculous.

the vox still sound like they've been cupped over a mic tho!? id deffo say the guitars have been overdubbed, but i thought the vox tone is very similar to a 58.

To be honest I think his voice sounds strange and mid rangey live, lacking the full depth of what they get on their records. A lot of that has to do with how he cups his hands around the mic though, not the mic itself. I get the impression he's doing this intentionally as an effect, but it is weird for sure...

As for live vocal mics, I can't strongly recommend the Audix OM8 enough. It's all I use.

I'm not sure sure about this myself...there are plenty of noticeable little nuances in their playing that would have been difficult to overdub in a visually realistic way, some botched squeals here and there, and I think plenty of guitar stuff that doesn't really seem perfect and overdubbed to me. As for the previous comment, proclaiming the amount of squeals on the DVD to be evidence that there was overdubbing...every time I've seen them live, they do precisely that- hit a ridiculous amount of squeals!
