King Kobra

Well, if it made him, sorry I meant her happy why not?
I never heard about King Cobra until someone told me that the music of that 80s flyer movie [damn! I forgot the name] was played by them.

I have the first King Cobra, it's ok but nothing spectacular, even if pretty good at times. Typical 80's hard rock.
Didn't know about his sex change though... he doesn't really look like a woman on that website :err: Ok, maybe not like a man too...

Yep Mark Free (now Marcie Free) had a sex change in the '90s and has even released a solo album as Marcie Free.

I'm a big fan of him regardless of the sex change, because he has an awesome voice and everything he has sung on has been quality. The first 2 King Kobra albums are great '80s hard rock/AOR, then he sung on the Black Roses horror movie soundtrack (and other King Kobra members played on it too, though by that time they had left King Kobra and the new King Kobra line up contributed a song to the soundtrack too), then he sungon Signal - Loud & Clear album which is UNREAL melodic AOR stuff, then he sungon the Unruly Child debut which is also unreal AOR, then did an awesome solo album after that as Mark Free.... then I haven't heard his solo album Marcie Free though haha.

King Kobra were certainly a supergroup too I think:

Mark Free (Signal, Unruly Child, etc)
David Michael Phillips (went on to Lizzy Borden)
Johnny Rod (WASP)
Mick Sweda (Bulletboys)
Carmine Appice (EVERYONE haha!)

On their 3rd album though (the one with the hot chick on the cover!), the only 2 left were David & Carmine. But its a great album still, more metal sounding but I prefer the first 2 I think. They actually do 2 unreleased Kiss songs on it too (Legends Never Die and It's My Life). And the song "Take It Off" (not Kiss' one) was on the Black Roses soundtrack, along with Me Against The World by Lizzy Borden and the rest of the soundtrack was done by Mark Free, Mick Sweda, Carmine Appice etc. but after they were no longer King Kobra.

Iron Eagle was the air movie that had King Kobra on the soundtrack "Never Say Die (Iron Eagle)", great song.

All I can say is that you really know your shit.
What did you think of that Black Roses movie?
On King Kobra III they covered "It's My Life" by KISS, the version on the KISS boxset is much better. At the time, KK's version wasn't too bad though. That record also had Mean Street Machine. Great track.
I don't recall DMP being a member of Lizzy though? He didn't record with them did he?!

"It's My Life" also ended up being re-worked into "Raise Your Glasses" off Psycho Circus I think. David Michael Phillips was Lizzy's guitarist on the Master Of Disguise record, that's all I think. Probably did the tour for that album too I'd say.

I liked Black Roses. I like all the "heavy metal horror" films really, Trick Or Treat is by far the best one I reckon but Black Roses is cool too. There are definitely worse ones out there! It had an awesome soundtrack anyway haha. Some of the horror scenes were pretty fuckin' bad haha (dude getting sucked into a speaker? HAHA!) but it was fun.

How about that really light AOR song "Paradise" they do to fool the parents at the show haha.. that's awesome! "We're on our waaay to paaaaaradise!"

By the way I watched Black Roses again last night. Fuck its bad haha it was worse than I remembered it. The soundtrack really is the film's savior haha! That "Rock Invasion" song is awesome too haha. It's still a fun movie to watch but its pretty bad haha! Not as bad as Slumber Party Massacre II though, with that rocker with the guitar-weapon thing, that sucked haha.

He was a transtesticle for several years, hell look at the LP photos, he looked like an ugly woman then too...
Hawk the movie was Iron Eagle?
YES!! That's the one. Seems that when I get older my memory goes kaput! And sometimes my sense of humor

I had a King Cobra on cassette years ago, but I think I gave it away. At the time, I was into heavier stuff. I don't really remember what it sounded like.

Bryant
I would encourage you to pick something up, they were actually on the heavier side of the rock music for that era, this thread has inspired me to
hunt their first two discs down.

I'm with Swine on this one Bryant, find a copy of their first album (Ready To Strike). It's great AOR/hard rock/ glammy metal.... what every the hell you want to call it. What was the name of that one great song on there.... "Tough Guys Don't Cry"? Is that right?

I believe you're correct. That must be the same disc with "Hunger" on it.
I saw the video for that track a few weeks back on VH-1 Classic. Not a bad video for that era & low on the "cheese" factor.
