I know about pasties from reading bill bryson, and you cannot venture into some of Chicago's ethnic neighborhoods without running into elderly ladies in babushkas peddling pierogies.

last night one of my friends, freshly returned from China, came over and we made Indian dinner!

aloo baigan
mango lentils
basmati rice
naan (this wasn't from scratch. pre-bought)

DELICIOUS!

she also brought me a Mao lighter that glows red and plays "THE EAST IS RED" in tinny electronic tones every time you flip it open. typically Chinese, the flame part doesn't work very well.
