i just found out that the kontakt player which came with ssd is able to import gig files. can i just create giga instruments and import new drumsets for example to use it there?
are there any restrictions (except that it says "demo"?)
don´t want to buy this whole thing for 300 euro just to use one drumset.

Just an FYI, you dont have to buy the full version of Kontakt for the full price.
Because you have SSD you can crossgrade to the full version for a fraction of the price

NI are pretty generous by letting the third party market use their sampler (the best available, IMHO) for free to users to run their respective products... but IF you're going to brew your own, you HAVE to get the full version or the crossgrade if an option. If you're a serious sound crafter, it's well worth the cash.

but what if i created my own instruments with gigastudio (which i own) and import them to kontakt player?
any restrictions?

i know about the differences. i just want to be able to create my own drumsets (apart from ssd) and play it back in kontakt player without having to buy anything again.
i own gigastudio and can create instruments there. but it seems that i can only use them for 15 minutes according to the NI homepage.

In short since noone else wants to give you the answer ... NO

You can run them in demo mode for 30 minute I believe after that you need to close Kontact and reload your samples. I have attempted to use the Joey Sturgis Cymbals with it and this is the end result.

thanks dude!

that´s what i wanted to know (although not what i wanted to hear but i was afraid this will be the answer).

If it's giga format you want to use maybe try LinuxSampler: http://www.linuxsampler.org

Don't let the name fool you, it's got Windows version too (VST/Standalone). It can load .gig files without converting them and it also supports patches in the giga files. Seems to work ok at least in Reaper x64.

Other free option is SFZ: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/project5/sfz.aspx

The format description: http://www.cakewalk.com/devxchange/sfz.asp

SFZ editor (quite hard to use): http://audio.clockbeat.com/sfZed.html

It's a text format so you can make patches with notepad if you like ;) Although it can be a bit complicated if you got lots of samples.

why on earth should i need ANOTHER sampler?

i own gigastudio and just want to use kontakt player for using additional samples to ssd.

LinuxSampler and SFZ are not samplers... but sample players. But if you wanna use Kontakt your options are 30min at a time and remove/reload or buy Kontakt for 500$. ;)
