Anyone know if this band is still around and kicking? I heard a couple songs by them ("Toxic Trace" and "Violent Revolution" I believe was the 2nd one) and was wondering if there are any recommendations on which of their albums to get. I like both songs a lot but not so much the videos for them.

Suggestions: My favorite Kreator is Coma Of Souls(1990), IMO....simply the best. Alot of people like the earlier albums, but they lact production, but make up for it in rawness, Out Of The Dark...Into The Light(1988), Extreme Aggression(1989) (is probably the best from pre-Coma Of Souls).................... I really like the album, Outcast(1997).....(My 2nd Favorite).............And Endorama(1999)...is very good, but alot slower & cleaner volcals, and more main stream(different side of Kreator)......
Their last album was called Violent Revolution(2001)(3rd Favorite), also very good & solid, a return to a more tradtional Kreator, & produced by Andy Sneap(excellant sound). If you liked the song Violent Revolution, then you'll like this album alot. I think they have a new album and or DVD, coming out soon? Also consider getting their Voices Of Transgression(2000) (Best of Album), A 90's Retrospective), also contains 3 bonus tracks. All in all one of my favorite German Bands.........They also have Renewal(1992), & Cause For Conflict(1995).....but those are just not OK, they are good but not great, IMO........Nice choice Liz..............Those are the ones I have, but I could be missing some earlier ones?

"EXTREME AGGRESSION" is my fave!

I have been listening to Kreator since Flag of Hate EP came out in 1986. For their early stuff I recommend:

Endless Pain (1985)
Flag of Hate (1986)
Pleasure to Kill (1986)
Terrible Certainty (1987)
Extreme Agression (1989)

All of these are great, they are the quintessential german thrash sound.

LIZ my dear, you need to get with the flow babe!

KREATOR were just in Massachusettes a few months ago on their 7th US tour.

Most of their albums are killer! Ive been a fan since 86 and consider myself a KREATOR fanatic, so Ill give you my heads up on what their stuff is like, etc.

discography:

Endless Pain LP 1985 - killer debut, brutal with death like vocals split up between the singer and drummer. If you like really old Sodom, Destruction or Sepultura youll like this.

Flag of Hate EP 1986 - 2 new songs that CRUSH everything on Endless Pain, plus a re recording of the title track which was also on Endless Pain. (I dont buy cds so Im not sure whether this comes with Endless or Pleasure)

Pleasure to Kill LP 1986 - by far one of the very best thrash metal albums ever! This album is FAST and BRUTAL but a bit cleaner than Endless. Mille the singer, sings all but 3 tracks. This was their first US tour (87) (GODLY!!!)

Terrible Certainty LP 1987 - my personal favorite!
The song "Toxic Trace" that you heard is on this album. Its even cleaner than Pleasure and almost as brutal. A thrash metal masterpiece! (2nd US tour 88)

Extreme Aggression LP 1989 - this one and the next one are VERY similar in sound and structure.
Both are very good thrash albums.
Once again, cleaner than its predecessor. Seems to be the favored album by most.
(3rd US tour in 89)

Coma of Souls 1990 - same style as above, but not quite as many great tracks though. (4th US tour 91)

Renewal 1992 - this one took me a long time to get used to. I hated it when it came out, but have grown to like it. (5th US tour 93)

Cause For Conflict 1995 - a godly return to the thrashier days! I like this album a ton! Its different than anything they had done, yet its got the old school feeling that was lacking on Renewal.
(6th US tour 96)

Outcast 1997
Endorama 1999

2 VERY experimental albums that I strongly dont suggest you even attempt listening to until youve become familiar with the band, as they are very different from anything they had ever done.
I really like them both for what they are, but MANY a Kreator fan hate them. Endorama is very dark.

Violent Revolution 2001 - a "sort of" return to their roots. a Decent album but nothing to write home about. (7th US tour 02)

My advice is the same for any band youve never heard, start where the band started and grow WITH the band. I think PLEASURE and TERRIBLE are their best works, but judge for yourself!

I neglected to mention they had a couple other 12" singles / eps

Behind the Mirror 12" 1988 - 1 tygers of pan tang cover + one studio track from Terrible Certainty

Out of the Dark...Into the Light EP 1989 - 1 new studio track + 1 raven cover and a couple live tracks from the terrible tour. the cd has more live tracks though

all this material is more than likely packaged on one of the full length album cds

Kreator is easily one of my favorite all time bands. As stated in this thread, they have evolved alot over the years, but I can honestly say that I love every Kreator album. Renewal is the only album I could see as being weak, but I still listen to it from time to time.

Extreme Aggression is probably my favorite album of theirs. I can vividly remember being 15 and Mille and Frank were on Headbanger's Ball (hosted by Adam Curry!). They played Betrayer and I thought it was most brutal thing I had ever heard. I bought it the next day and they've have been tops for me ever since.

Essential thrash!

Kreator is awesome when I'm in a mood for just straightfoward thrash with no gimmicks. Just guitars, vocals, bass and drums. They are good at it too.
