According to The Pulse Of Radio, Brett Morgen, director of the newly released documentary "Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck", took to Twitter this week to answer some questions about the film. Asked why NIRVANA drummer Dave Grohl isn't in the movie, Morgen explained, "We first approached Dave about an interview in April 2014. Dave did sit for an interview three weeks after I completed the film. He was great. But unfortunately, it was too late for inclusion." But Morgen still cited Grohl as one of the key figures in making the documentary happen, saying, "The film could not have been made without the support of Dave, Krist [Novoselic], Wendy [Cobain], Don [Cobain], Kim [Kurt's sister], Courtney [Love], or Frances [Cobain]. Everyone came together." Morgen also emphasized that Love had no creative control over the film, insisting, "Courtney didn't see the film until the week of the premiere and never saw a frame prior to that. There is not a single edit in this film that was dictated by a family member, studio, or network." Regarding the upcoming album of previously unheard material from Kurt Cobain that was compiled by Morgen through his research in Kurt's archives, the director said, "The soundtrack will not feature any NIRVANA music. It's all Kurt. A few unreleased tracks from the film, the rest have never been heard." "Montage Of Heck" has been in limited theatrical release since last month and premiered on HBO last Monday night (May 4). The movie is constructed like a collage of previously unseen home movies, interviews, animation, photographs, music, artwork and other artifacts that Morgen pulled out of Kurt Cobain's personal archives, which he was given unrestricted access to by the Cobain family.
