label deadlines

That's the right attitude!
I had some experiences where I bend over backwards just to see the releases getting delayed for no reason.
I think you can't do that with a Metallica record, but to a certain degree take the time it needs to be good.

I have my deadline next Wednesday, and my fucking HD crashed with everything mastered... I think I'm gonna kill myself. And the release date for the album is September 1st...
However I talked to label and they were cool about it, didn't make any extra pressure and told me to take it easy and finish it.
But this is a small label, I don't know if you can mess with big labels so easily...

DAMN!

never missed a deadline, Labels like that about me.
much too often I had to give them a less then perfect mix though, just to find out that the artwork wasn't done or the release got delayed like 6 months for some other reason.

I do need the pressure of a deadline though, and usually they're rather reasonable cause I tell them beforehand what I need minimum...they shorten it by a week and that's my deadline, lol

The last label job I did (Lasse reamped for me actually! thx again btw), they wanted it done by last October. Which was actually plenty of time, it was done way before then. However, the CD release has been pushed back to September this year... They don't ever have an excuse that makes it ok, it's just been "delayed" is all they say.

a cool, wanted to ask what's going on with that band anyway, how was their name again? was the blackmetal stuff with the krank, wasn't it?

Yeah I never got how labels decide "when" to release an album.

Best one btw was when i finished a cd in 2/3 weeks (!!!!!) about 5 months ago and its now set for release somewhere in september.........
I liked deadlines though.. gets work done :)

haha, I know that just to well...
I had to record, mix and master a 4 track in 3 days...and that included teching the sessiondrummer the songs (he hasn't heard them before), all the editing etc...I did it in time just to hear that the release will be delayed 6 months

That's painful, guys. Seems like Joey is a bit clued into this and rightly doesn't give a fuck

I have the distinct feeling that I'll be laboring to get the album finished by mid October only to have them delay the release to February.

Yes sir, the Krank with the 57/160 combo

Hordes of the Morning Star, set to be released on Trendkill Records (FR) in Sept-ish.

It's really weird, because originally it was suppose to come out in Feb, then they said ok May, and then Sep. We decided to go back and work on it a little more since there is so much time, haha. It's not a huge label so they have been cool about taking re-mixes and whatnot. Their contact there just says basically things have come up so everything is getting pushed back, all of the releases he had planned for 2009. They have the artwork and everything sorted I think, but we don't know when retail copies will come in for the band yet.

My friends, the band, are actually starting to give up on it because of the delays. We joke about it, saying it's "cursed" haha.

It was before my time at the studio, but Lifeforce America gave the engineer who was working on the Left To Vanish album 24 hours to mix. Now that's just plain ridiculous.
