Just another young guitar player. 19, been playing for something over two and a half years. Don't write much music, I just make up lots of riffs then make up solos to go over them... not very good at arranging stuff.
I'm a singer too, though not as dedicated as I am to guitar. I'd rather just be a singer for a band than a guitarist for a band though and just pump out riffs and help write solos for the rest of the band to work with, but I don't have much practice with lyrics.
I was a drummer for a year before I started playing guitar. A dedicated one before I started college... no room for a kit in a dorm, so I took shredding more seriously.
I've been a Slayer and Pantera fan since I was about 15 or 16... but I really didn't start listening to Metal until I started college a year ago.
I met another guitarist and he had me listen to lots of Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse for inspiration so we could start a Death Metal band. I've listened to a lot of other stuff since then.
More lately Nevermore and Children of Bodom are probably my favorite metal bands right now.
Some of my other favorite bands are Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, old Incubus (S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Make Yourself, Fungus Amgongus), Alice In Chains, Tool.
