I havent been able to record for the last 7 months as ive been in Asia for 6 and the last month my computer has been fucked (thankyou bumble!). So since my chops are a little rusty, I couldnt be arsed to record the original stuff ive come up with, i just nicked the drum track off of Guitar Pro and hit go. Its a little rusty here and there, but the next one will kick ass, i can feel it.

This is to all those haters out there that say the DSL cant do metal. Im not using my blackmachine for this one, as it needs restringing, so this is my Cheapie RG7321 ---> TC Electronics Integrated Preamp ---> DSL100 ---> 1960AV

I think the marshall midrange grind really works well for this kind of stuff and definately has its place next to my Herbert. Im told the cymbols are too high, but im mixing this on headphones so i cant hear it well enough to fix it, my new HD280s dont arrive for a few days :(

Whaddaya think?

I dunno, the volume is pretty low on the gits (and yes, the cymbals are too loud), but the tone is a bit thin and has got a ton of that "clangy" high-mid nasal quality that I don't like (the cab might be partially to blame, I'm trying to get rid of my Bogner 2x12 because it suffers the same ailment). Sorry dude, not convinced about the DSL yet. :D And not a bad job on the song (gotta practice that awesome harmonized sweep part a bit more, though I could hardly do better!), but you left out all the awesome pinch harmonics!

word.

to get rid of the...janky...sound I'd say get a new bridge pup. I've had good results from EMG81s and Duncan JB's. The stock Ibanez INF in the neck position is good, I've got one on my S320 with the EMG in the bridge. Good combo IMO.

I think you guys are being a little *too* critical here...the tone is pretty damn good, considering it's a Marshall DSL100, I've owned a few Marshalls in my day and I never considered them for anything heavy really except my old JCM800 2203 with a boost in front of it, and that was on very rare occasion.

It does have the Marshall sound to it though, which is what I think everyone is referring to. But seriously, it's not BAD.

I dunno, I think the only reason it sounds decent in the palm muted/non-single note parts are because the volume is comparatively low to the bass & kick drum, but when the single-note part comes in, that's when the "janky"/"clangy" (as I call it) qualities really become apparent, and after that, I noticed 'em everywhere.

I'm curious to know about the mic(s) and their position(s) as well.

Hey folks, cheers for the comments. Like i say, this is my first recording and the first time ive played electric guitar in over 7 months, so i need to figure out where im going wrong. I hear what youre saying about the high frequencies, i think its becuase of the TC Pedal i use. Since my cab is shite, i use it to scoop all the bass out of the guitar and then add it on the amp, which sounds really tight on my diezel, but on the DSL it seems to accentuate the high frequencies a lot. I have the Presence rolled back to 2 and the treble at 3, so ive tried to tame it, but i think i just need to spend more time figring out how the pedal interacts with the amp, as its certainly pretty different to the herbert.

anyways, original stuff today, so i gotta crack on
