LIFE ON MARS!?!??!?!

Ok, so you know everything about how the universe works, Nostradamus?

That saying in particular can be used to support any kind of mystic bullshit. STOP. BEING. A. MAJOR. RETARD. PERIOD.

Heavy elements can only be formed from hydrogen by nuclear fusion, dipshit. And the only way to release the fusion products into space is by the death of a star. Now if I were you I'd quit the internet and *begin* *studying* before you embarass the fuck out of yourself EVEN MORE.

I'm done.

Ah jea? Prove that.

You are the main exemple why Science is the new Religion.

There's those who have a 100% faith in Science, saying that it can solve all our problem and explain us everything.

Then there's those who don't, who still believe that science isn't a motherfucking suprematic for everything.

As religion, those last are called stupid, non-intelligent, cunt, ridicoulus who actually can't see the power of Science and etc.

Wooooo!

Fact is anything else than the opinion of the stronger

Sadly, the universe doesn't care what the opinions of the strongest are. That's the beauty of science(and also why in my opinion stuff like history and philosophy aren't even close to science, but I don't want to start an argument about this, so I'll leave it at that).

Ah jea? Prove that.

Typical opinion of someone who doesn't have a clue about what science is.

You're point isn't proven by any supporting evidence. So therefore you're point is NOT PROVEN.

Are you actually this retarded?

Kevin: "Modus Tollens". Look it up :)

Thank you. I mean actually that was a good post

I know the Modus Tollens form of argument, but I think the whole subject got too far.

I'm on the side of Chairman Kaga, there's thing we don't know, so that we can't be sure of. Even the thing that we know now can be beaten by something we still don't know.

Taking the MT in exemple

A implies B.
If B is false, then A is false too.
B is false.
Then A is flase.

But it's based on "facts".

B is false.

I mean, dude I know that Facts exists, I was more or less trolling wth the "Fact is the opinion of the stronger" but what I mean is that IT IS POSSIBLE (we could argue, but I doubt you would make me change my minde on that) so YES IT IS POSSIBLE that a fact maybe false, in some context etc. We are saying now it's a fact, but maybe later it won't be.

I know that now, in science, that's becoming really rare compared from the past that a fact is proved wrong, I can't even think of something recent, cause we have improved the fuck that even "normal" doesn't know the fuck is going on.

Now, I won't dich everybody with that shit and I wouldn't ignore fact cause there's mini little chance that it can, maybe, might be, could be, false. I mean if you don't give me that, anywho you are, you are a motherfucking closed minded  I mean, I wouldn't fucking discuss with you if yes or no the earth is round, there's fact for that and I'm not saying science is wrong...

And it just got into Science is the new Religion cause not giving our faith totaly in science make us look fucking dumb and ignorant. It seems like we fucking need to depend totally on science. (And no, I'm not talking of anything near things like Scientology ) Just like I said, I BELIEVE that there's a possobility that science can be wrong - in that case, and after we discover that, that thing wouldn't be science anymore - so I don't believe everyfreaking fucking assholing word a said "scientist" might spit on us.

And you said
Typical opinion of someone who doesn't have a clue about what science is.

Which is exacty, you can at least give me that, the kind of answer from religion people "Typical opinion of someone who didn't got hilighted but thy Lord" or something like that.

And honeslty, I fucking don't care, Swabs is acting like an Heavy metal pussies since some day, I've got to pee, I need to prepare myself for school tomorrow and etc etc etc.

Oh and, thanks in advance for all the TL;DR I'll get

What makes you think I don't study? I already know all this shit, I'm just not ignorant enough to ignore unknown possibilities. Something you can't seem to get through your mind.

There's a difference between choosing not to ignore unknown possibilities and using that belief to support things you WANT to believe.

Thank you. I mean actually that was a good post

Well, to be fair, I was rather unnecessarily aggressive in that statement, I apologize. What I meant was, seeing science from a common man's view, it might seem as there is *belief* involved, but there is not. There is a high degree of reliability to it when it comes to repeatable experiments and peer-reviewed periodics. POINT BEING - there is no such thing as science being *right* or *wrong*, technically speaking, when it comes to quantitative predictions(which, like it or not, form the bulk of every scientific argument), science can only be wrong. What we have are approximations, some of them very good(general relativity has been tested up to 14 decimal places, or so I've heard. Also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precision_tests_of_QED ), and that's why science cannot be proven. HOWEVER, when it comes to qualitative predictions(ie, how is it that heavy elements were formed in the early universe) everything can be pretty much proven - as long as the conclusions are based on quantitative data with a convenient degree of certainty(I won't specify what that means, it'd take too long. It'll suffice to say that the predictions are reliable as long as the error is small enough not to interfere).

Now about what I meant when I cited modus tollens - there are things which are pretty much fact. For example, this is a fact: Not all matter in the universe is hydrogen. Another fact: Classical electrodynamics cannot explain atoms and the stability of matter. On that context, the modern scientific method is entirely based on modus tollens, which relates to epistemologic works by Karl Popper. It's not the only way to make science, but see, it's reliable and logically consistent. Which, by the way, are the only assumptions one has to do about nature: That it is logically consistent and will behave reliably.

Now, we can start working on a system which allows consistent qualitative predictions that can be tested, because they base themselves off quantitative predictions that are so precise.

Of course, there is a little more to it than meets the eye(see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hume) but when it comes to asking questions about black swans we're relying entirely on speculation and underestimating millenia of observational evidence.

So, long story short: Science works, speculating leads nowhere, and that thing was a fucking rock.

Well I didn't say I wanted to believe in anything. I just believe in facts (such as the previous ones you stated:kickass:) and I also keep in mind that there might be other unknown possibilities out there.:kickass:
