Limiting/clipping drum bus?

The only way I can achieve a properly loud whole mix on the modern side of -10db RMS is by limiting the drum group (ie. on top of the individual track compression) and then of course mix bus limiting added in the end. Curious to hear what you think of this - I know it's done by some. Seeking advice as to the kind of limiting to apply here (clipping? saturation?).

I think your drums would sound over-compressed and sterile if you're just maximizing your entire drum bus and not using proper headroom technique.

But if you want to crush your drums, something like an 1176 and Gclip works really well.

try to use clipping in the kick and snare busses only( is more cleaner this way IMO) and maybe some light compression for glue on the drum buss. try to keep your over all mix level peaking something in between -6db and -3 db so you have enough headroom for the pre-mastering. -10 db rms should not be a problem this way.... now -8db rms...fuck it i hate bands asking for ridiculous loud mixes...:bah:
