live tones vs recording tones & do you use diffrent tones for leads ?

basically what are some diffrences in between what you would be looking for in a recoding tone vs a live tone...( i think im looking to much into what sounds good live but it sounds like shit after i layer it).

Also do you recommend using different tones for the rhythms and lead parts?

Live I use more mids, other than that it's normally the same tone.

I like to use a different amp for leads to give them a bit of seperation in the mix. Going from a 6L6 based amp to an EL34 one or vice versa can really help to get a different sound.

I have used EQ changes between my lead and rhythm tones for quite awhile. I don't boost the gain for leads, but I boost some mids to give single notes more weight.
