How important is a high quality speaker cable for long runs of about 50' or more, when connecting head to cab?

I need to purchase one and I'm not sure if I should drop some decent cash on a high quality cable from Planet Waves or the like, or just get a cheapy guitar center version.

Go to an electrician equipment store and buy a normal "2 pole" cable (external plastic cover and 2 inner cables.....the 2 inner cables of 2mm each) and solder 2 connectors. I built 2 and they work perfectly

As long as you have decent quality speaker wire, it should be fine. As the above poster said, speaker wire around 18-16 gauge will do the trick.
Long distances aren't such a big problem when you're pushing a large amount of current down a big conductor like this.

Just get a cheap soldering iron, not a gun. It's to easy to heat things too much with a soldering gun if your inexperienced. I've made all sorts of cables with 20w and 40w soldering irons.
