Looking to start a band

I have tons of lyrics written, I play the piano, I have all these ideas , so I want to start a band. I'm training my voice as a screamer/growler. I guess I just wanna put the word out there.
I'm hoping to put a bunch of talented musicians together by the time I get back to seattle.

I don't really want to put a label on what I want to do, but I want it to be heavy, I want to incorporate a lot of unusual instruments as well.

Well bored at work again. just putting the word out there.

NO JEN! dont be one of those women who growl and scream! its so wrong....
(unless its all you can do vocally)
anyway...yeah im on the other side of country so like..i cant help you there...

Well I live in Chilliwack, BC, Canada, which is about 3 hours away from Seattle... I play GEETAR! and a mean double-bass on drums...

Ok, I'm going to hurt my sisters out there, and offend many women,
but I agree with Mah.
fuck women who growl.... they can't do it. (and Gassaw SUCKS and people
who say she "rules" only say it because she is a woman... her growls worth shit)
Honeslty, I love female vocals only when they're clean... I love female singers *looks at her collection of female artist proudly*
but please they need to stay away from death metal.... :zombie:

Benedictum, vox baby lady rulez, she growls i have no hassles with it, unless its done bad...

Everyone has their opinions. There's alot of people out there who think all death metal is shit, etc etc,

If it's really all about the music for you, you are going to do what makes you happy and what you like. There will always be someone who hates your music reguardless of what you put out there.

I personally really like Arch Enemy. I admire Angela. And it's not just because she's a woman. It's about preference, I enjoy the sound of her vocals, the music grooves, It's just my taste. Not many women would even attempt to sing that way and NOT just because they don't think they should, but because they are afraid of what people will think. That doesn't mean I think the band rules because all the top death metal singers in my book are men, but she obviously loves what she does and they're selling albums so there's other people who do also. I do however like singers who are more versatile in that they can growl, scream, whateva and sing cleanly. It's all a matter of opinion.

With me, the band I want to start, I don't even want to try to put a genre label on it because it's going to be whatever we dream up, whatever makes us happy, whatever feels good. Maybe I might sing cleanly on some parts of a song, or growl or scream in other parts, maybe I'll play the keyboards, or cello, or violin. It's all about a group of open minded musicians getting together and finding a happy media of expression for everyone involved.

Gossow dominated the stage when I saw her, but she was not at all brilliant. Arch Enemy sucked also.

BUT with SYL supporting and the painfully small venue, I got to hang with Devin and co for most of AE's set.

Good luck with the band venture, expression of persons through a heavy medium is the best thing any one can do! :p

That's a good attitude Jen, hope you really do well. Hope you post some stuff for us soon! Speaking of Angela, there was a piece of an interview on B-mouth with her today and she discusses her vox and various other stuff.

Personally, I like the clean vox of women, not because they cant growl, just that they sound so much prettier (yea go ahead with the gay jokes..). I really like the combination thingy that Lacuna Coil has going on.
