more metal, more booze!!!
well i was doin some mixing yesterday and all of a sudden me MOTU 828 II made a really loud buzzing, that eventually turned into a constant hum. The motu techs said im gnna have to send it back.

grrr, this means if i get it replaced its gonna be my 3rd one in less than a year:erk:!!! its a great piece of kit, but im starting to think that its becoming an all to familiar situation and i cant have kit that cud have serious reliability issues. I think this happening will push me to invest in the Digidesign 002 or 003 especially with me heading into the Pro Tools environment when i move.

anyone else had issues with MOTU kit?

WOW - with the 828mk3 now out, I was really starting to consider it as an alternative to a FF400; not anymore! :ill:

well just bringing this topic alive, i rang music track (UK distributer this morning) asked about a swap, unfortunately there aint no 828s as they are discontinued to make way for the mkIII version. However to save turnaround time i asked the guy if i could do a straight swap for an 8Pre, and he said this would be fine, so yet again i am very pleased with the UK distributers. dont think ive known another company which such great customer service!!!

I've had to replace my 24I/O once 2 summers ago. MOTU was really friendly, even though it took like 3 weeks to get something back. I've heard they work better with Macs too. Eh whatever, I've been with MOTU for about 5 years and that was the only issue I've had with them.

I bought my 2408 mk3 used on ebay about 2 1/2 years ago. Within a month (if I remember correctly) the volume would be CRANKED even at its lowest setting, scaring the crap out of me. E-mailed Motu, explained the situation, they said to send it to them and they'll either fix it or send me a new one so I did and within a few months, I got a brand new one! Haven't had any problems since. (knock on wood)

Bought Digital Performer around the same time and have been VERY pleased with it.

On a down side, I think its utterly ridiculous that they charge $300.00 for an updated PCI-X card since the older ones won't fit the G5s. I lucked out a bit by going the ebay route yet again for that.
