This was actually reported on Loudness' Official Site a couple of months ago, but I had just found out about it.

Munetaka Higuchi, drummer of the Japanese metal band Loudness, was diagnosed with liver cancer. He had been undergoing radiotherapy ever since, but according to the moderator of the band's official MySpace profile, there have been no updates on Munetaka's condition.

In the meantime, Loudness has been placed on hold indefinitely. Please send your thoughts and prayers for Munetaka's recovery, as he's one of the pioneers of Japanese metal music.

Liver cancer is pretty much a 'make-out-your-will' diagnosis... I'm surprised they acknowledged it. The Japanese are insane about discussing cancer openly. I remember several years back when one of their famous pro wrestlers died of intestinal cancer, it was not disclosed until after he died. Out of the blue, dead. Then we learned the truth.

Here's Loudness' most recent music video:

And here's a blast from the past:

Loudness' Official MySpace Blog has an interview with lead vocalist Minoru Niihara, who says Munetaka is undergoing "cutting-edge medical care" in Kobe, Japan, and the band is confident he'll beat the disease.
