Hi,

Just seen one of these going cheap and will be buying it.

I will be tuning it down to A, D, G, C, F, A, D do you thing I will need to adjust the trust rod or not.

It's a NON trem guitar and thoughts on guages of strings to avoid this would be cool.

First, it's 'truss rod' - that should help if you try Googling it or looking for help elsewhere.

Second, that depends on whether or not you plan to use slightly heavier strings to make up for the tension drop. If the tension doesn't change significantly between the factory setup and your setup, you're fine. If you post the original string gauges and the gauges you plan to use I can do a back-of-the-envelope estimate for you.

I'd suggest a skinny top, heavy bottom set + add a 0.70 string for the low A.

and don't forget to intonate again.

Skinny Top-Heavy Bottom sets can be EXTREMELY unbalanced.

I would get the GHS set that used to be the Zakk Wylde before he jumped ships (11-70) and then add a .026 for the D string.

not much different from what i was mentioning.

Zw set with added 026 : 011-14-18-026w-036w-052w-070w

skinny top with added 070

10-13-17-30w-42w-52w-70w

just the 3 unwounded strings are a bit smaller, which gives you easier bending for solo's.

both will be just fine.

d'addario has a 011-052 set to, if you don't like small unwounded strings

I was referring to the 10-13-17-30-44-52 set. That A is significantly heavier than it should be.

I take it no one is producing Baritone 7 string sets?

No, not really, and the 7 string sets are abysmal because they make the lower strings even lighter - can you say tuning instability?

I used to own one of these guitars and I'd highly recommend against it. The maple body really doesn't sound good. Go with a Schecter Hellraiser any day over these!

Waiting for that... yeah, have to agree. Or go Blackjack if you want passives, or the straight C7 if you want a bolt-on or a cheaper one.
