I own two of the M-Audio Octanes. Very well made. I wish they went to a higher sample rate but 48K is still good enough.

The nice thing about the Octanes is they are lightpipe ready. I think the Focusrite OctoPre requires an optional card for lightpipe.

I have both my Octanes lightpiped with my RME Fireface 800. I only use them if I need more than 4 mic pre-amps at the same time. Otherwise I use the pre-amps on the Fireface. I will say they are quite easy to sync with the Fireface.

I have seen this discussed on a lot of message boards and almost everyone has said go with the octane. It has gotten decent reviews as well, so I'd say go that route.
