Some time ago I started a thread here asking for opinions and infos about Marathon guitars because I had the oportunity to buy one and didn't know anything about them.
As noone seemed to know anything about them (except for a friend of mine who once tried one but didn't remember anything about it
), I thought I should give you some info:
What I've got was a Marathon Pro Series (thats what it says on the headstock) guitar shaped like a Jackson RR. It has 24 frets which was one reason why I was interested in it since most RRs only have 22 (I don't exactly know why, but I just feel better playing a guitar with 24 frets). As for pickups it has two humbuckers (I don't know which brand or model) which are splitable via push-pull-pot (though I don't hear a very great different between the two modes). Controlls are a 3-way-switch, a volume-knob and a tone-knob. The tremolo is a locking trem that kinda looks like a floyd, but isn't
the strings go through the body and the finetuning-screws have rather large heads which makes it more comfortable to use them though the tremolo-arm is missing. It also has a nice "crunched", red/white body-finish and really looks pretty cool
The sound is really nice, very sharp and heavy though it tends to sound a bit "unclear" if you play a bit more careless (if you know what i mean
). I really like the sound.
Playability is very good, too, it really has a nice and pretty fast neck (though I'm no shredder (yet
))
Overall, I'd call it a good guitar, especially because I got it for 200 euros including a shape-hardcase.
If someone would be so kind to host them I also could post some pics of it, maybe some of you could give me more information when you see it.....
PS: If this gutar tries to copy the Jackson-stuff, I know why so many people love Jacksons (never really played one myself, only gave a short try to one in a shop and didn't like it that much for whatever reason (maybe a cheap, crappy model???))
