Mastered for iTunes

Whats the deal with this? Anyone ever heard of this, or bet yet, used it?

I guess its nice that Apple is providing this tool in order to give better quality music. But on the same token, does anyone buying music from iTunes really care? Should I care? WTF?

Yeah it's to make sure your masters still sound good when lossy compressed in Apple's format, because you have no control over that stage as they do it in house. The main thing to be aware of is the fact it clips at a slightly lower threshold to .wav encoding (similar to mp3).

I'd feel uneasy about leaving a db of headroom. I've not bothered doing that before and it's sounded all right.

I think Plec has been doing this for my last few records. As a result the bands have kept the extra headroom on all their online uploads. Haven't really seen any complaints about it.
