MASTERING WITH WAVES PLUG-INS

haha saw this coming from 12 miles away!

Its impossible for us to give you good settings because we don't know what your mix is like. I've tried Waves and while they're good... there's better stuff out there for MUCH cheaper. Also, are you talking about using these on your master fader? Drum buss? Vocals?

Don't use the L2, it makes your kick and snare disappear at higher volumes (where you probably want it anyway). Try Voxengo's Elephant or Gclip (Gclip is free, you can find it in the free vst plugin thread)

The term, mastering, is used so loosely. Theres alot more to the process than most people might think. Although, I do think its a good idea to do some sort of processing on the master fader. I like to use the sonnox inflater. Makes your mixes sound big without peaking the over meter.

yeah my capslock is on most of the time, some people just like to be rude, but im not gonna get into their little game they play on here, but yeah, I wasnt really talking about the MASTERING of a cd, cause that is used loosely, just in the Master Fader on PT. You are right about the L2, i never realized that, thanks man.

If you need to use a Multiband Comp on the master fader of your own mix, than that means that your mix isn't good enough.

I'd try mixing thru Waves SSL Stero Bus Comp, I like that one a lot. If you need to make your song louder try GClip and then a good limiter like Sonnox/Voxengo/Flux.

As far as settings go for the SSLComp I use Attack .1 and Auto release and 4:1 ratio, 0 make up gain and mix through that. For GClip if you're slamming it then you should move your softness fader up to 50% or so. For your final limiter you don't really want it to add any gain, just catch the peaks. If you have a good mix, then this will get it as loud as you need to go if not, remix it because you probably made a mistake. These settings probably won't help you because every mix is different but it might give you a starting point.

Yeah, my first post on a forum was Iron Maidens a few years ago and I did the same thing using all capitals and I got bashed for it. Thought they were all a bunch of A-holes and never went back. I didn't see what the big deal was but eventually realized that it does resemble shouting and that's a big no-no. Hang in there JPDRUMMER, just about everyone here is cool.

OKIE DOKIE MATE WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS OPEN UP EVERY WAVE PLUGIN ON THE MASTER CHAIN AND SET EVERYTHING TO ELEVEN! THEN PUT AN SMPTE GENERATOR ON THE FINAL MASTER BEFORE BURNING TO CD

I used to have a mouse that clicked by itself every once in a while or registered a single click as a double. Of course, SMPTE generator was the plugin that was always directly under the mouse when opening Cubase's plugin list. And of course my mouse doubleclicked almost every single time I opened the list. Almost shat my pants a couple of times when trying stuff out at high volumes :zombie:

the only think i put on my master fader is a (i think its George Masseys) Mastering Limiter, LM2007 me thinks. kinda cool, just so you dont have to stop clicking the clip indicators every few seconds. I just wish the thing had a bypass switch

I THINK MAYBE YOU SHOULD BUY YOUR PLUGINS OKAY YEAH AND STOP USING CRACKS THANKYOU GOODBYE!

in fairness my caps lock is generally on when im mid session.
but if i start typing with it on i do tend to notice.....

You mean STEVE Massey, who makes all the Massey stuff.

You have to buy the plugin to get bypass, session restore, etc. etc.
