Mastodon - Blood Mountain

not a bad song...apparently this album is gonna take longer to digest than the others...apparently

I think this album is going to be really good. From what I've heard the vocals have improved (they now sound a bit softer with a stoner metal meets Pantera feel, which suits the music way better than the harsh screaming), which was about the only thing bothering me on the previous albums (besides the production on remission). The drumming is still awesome, the guitars have improved, and the songs that are online so far are pretty kickass. Now the only thing they need is perhaps some acoustic passages inside the heavier songs or instruments they haven't used yet (more variation in each song), and atmospheres different from what they've done so far.

that song was not very good. i guess if you really need some heavy metal music, then this would be an "ok" filler album, but i really wasnt that impressed. the vocals arent any good. the riffs were pretty boring. the leads didnt get their hooks in me. i dont know...i thought their previous material was more interesting.

"Filler" is something the drummer has issues with, and has always prevented me from truly liking this band.

^So do they have any acoustic interludes or anything special in there compared to Leviathan? Are all the vocals in the style of the song I linked? And how are the rest of the album's tracks compared to the track?

I didn't really notice any acoustic interludes...lots of sycopated rhythms/leads the vocals are all alot more melodic than they have been in the past. He almost soudns liek a cuntry singer on alot of the album. The guitarist has obviously taken the forefront as the main singer on this album.

They tried a few new things that you probably wouldnt' expect but I think they pull them off well. Some cool percussive effects.

I"ll have to listen to it a few more times t o really get specific.

i think leviathan and remission had their moments but neither album impressed me as a whole. we'll see about blood mountain tonight i guess.
