Mastodon - Blood Mountain

Mastodon, i don't quite know why, but think they're a genuinely great band. I guess it is largely down to Bran Dallior's drumming. The vocals are the worst part, but they don't really get in the way of the music for me.

From what i've heard of Blood Mountain, they've hit the jackpot again.

Not a big fan of them. I saw them live at Unholy Alliance in Toronto. Wasn't too into it. Most people were using their time as a food and bathroom break. I think there was one song I found entertaining but still wasn't very good

I really like the album. It sounds to me that they are trying to appeal to a broader audience by having Brent sing on more songs. Still a great album and on par for me with Leviathan.

They're nice guys and deserve every amount of success that they acheive off this new album.

It actually took me a long time to get into Mastodon back in the day. I started with Leviathan.

Same here. At first i was turned off when I heard March of the Fire Ants. the screaming was weird to me. now they are one of my top 5 favorite bands. alot of people are turned off by them because their singing is so different in their songs. they dont really have a set way of clean singing or screaming.

however, if you cant get into mastodon give them more time. i'd recommend listening to songs like "ole' nessie", "megalodon", and "seabeast."

my 2 favorite mastodon tracks are "Hearts Alive" and "This Mortal Soil."

You need to see them live in a small venue. Then you will 'get it'. The guys are all very nice and willing to answer questions and shit. The recorded music is ok, but when it is translated into the powerful live music, it kicks ass.

I'm not a massive Mastodon fan, although i do enjoy their music. Listening to them right now, in fact. I cannot wait too see them play with Slayer in April, should be awesome watching them live. Although i can understand why people wouldn't enjoy Mastodon
