Because of the vox. They are weird and unique, and do not fit everyone's taste. I quite enjoy them, though. I'm sure this topic must have been mentioned earlier...

The only time I liked this band was when I saw them live and I was really really high. The way the vocalist was singing into the mic made me start to freak out and think he was yelling at me or something. What a fun night that was.

I bought Blood Mountain on a whim and initially felt a bit disappointed. It really clicked with me the other day when I had it on in the car... there is a large amount of wanking but it's mostly fun wanking that sounds good. The drummer can't resist doing elaborate bits all over the place but the album is very energetic and they most definitely have a roaring, crusty kind of sound they can call theirs. Definitely a good band.

When I first read some article or review about the band some years ago, I was like, man I gotta check this out. Listen to a few songs I downloaded and nothing. I just couldnt hear anything special about them.

Then read some other reviews on the band maybe a year later and again I had to give them a try, nothing.

Read more hype, reviews, article and saw them being loved everywhere. And man I really wnated to like this band. The album covers are cool, everyone says the music is great, so I really tried so hard to like them. Listened to few more songs... and again nothing.

And with this newest album, gave it a try again (theres no other band Ive tried so hard liking. And again there was nothign. I didnt feel anything. And feeling is the most important part for me in mysic. No matter how complicated or easy the music is technically, it doesn matter, if there deep feeling of some sort inside me I will like the music. But again I felt nothing.

So after witnessing all this hype around the band and the greatest, I have come to the conclusion, over rated.

Anyone else try to like this band?

I cant explain it. Maybe I just had some insane expectations because I follow the metal press a lot and have seen this band being hyped so much.

Simply listen to the music for what it is without expectations, without apprehensions. Just my 2 cents...

And I for one don't really think you can properly get into a band by listening to individual songs. Especially Mastodon, since they make concept albums. It's cool if you don't like them, though. We all have different tastes.

Remission is my favourite... maybe because I got it last. Elephant Man is their best mellow track in my opinion...

I did not enjoy any of their albums upon first listen. So it was no difference when I picked up Blood Mountain...but it is undeniably amazing... aside from those moments of just over the top wanking... that shit is just annoying...luckily... i didnt feel it was overdone on the album...

The only specific instance of wankery I can recall is in Capillarian Crest. And I thought the way they did that was pretty cool. Enhanced the intensity and stuff.

Leviathan will always be my favorite. But the new one is pretty good.
